Fender Design Challenge
AIM:
To design the Fender mounting regions like Drip Area, Sillmount Area, Bumper mount Region and A-pillar mount region. Fender Design:
* Fender is a closing part for engine compartment which avoid stikking of sand and mud.
* Primary purpose of fender is to avoid sand, mud rock, liquid and other particles to be in thrown in air due to rotation of the wheel.
* Fender also avoids motion of the rocks which can be hit to the pedestrains.
* Front fender are individually designed whereas rear fender accomodated in body side structure.
Types Of Fender :

* Full bumper type is not used now a days because they requires bigger size blank to produce the pat and the large scrap is also produced.
* In half bumper type the scrap quantity is reduced and we can produce two parts at same time by slightly increasing the size of blank.
* In half bumper type we can use plastic parts at front which reduces weight of the part.
The fender mainly have 5 point of attachments.
1) A Pillar:

2) Baffle Mounting:

3) Sill Area:

4) Bumper mounting:

5) Body :

6) Drip Area:

Design Consideration For Drip Area:
1) 150mm Distance from front end is kept for the headlamps in bumper.
2) 200mm Distance from rear end is kept for the wiper motor assembly.
3) Engine components should not be visible from outside. For this purpose initial 3 degree of angle and 9mm length is given.
4) 40 to 60mm depth is given if the depth increase from 60mm tjhen the springback effect will be increases.
5) Emboses are given to drip area to increases the strength.
