Fender Design

FENDR DESIGN

The primary goal of this project is to create a fender using a cutting-edge design software called NX CAD

Introduction:

The portion of an automobile, motorbike, or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well is referred to as a fender in American English (the fender underside). The major function of this device is to keep sand, dirt, gravel, liquids, and other road spray from being flung into the air by the revolving tyre. Fenders are normally stiff and can be damaged by road surface contact.

Sticky materials, like mud, may attach to the smooth outer tyre surface, while smooth loose items, like stones, may become momentarily lodged in the tread grooves when the tyre rolls over the ground. As the tyre transmits kinetic energy to the connected items, these materials can be expelled off the surface of the tyre at high velocity.

When the vehicle is moving, tyres pick up syones and others and hurl them in all directions. Fenders are basically present to prevent any injuries to pedestrians and contain the motion of these particals. Most passenger automobiles have four fenders, one over each wheel. For vehices with a narrow car body that exposes the tire, the fender is an exposed curve over the top of the tire. For wide body vehicles that cover the tire, the fender forms the wheel well surrounding the tire, and is not directly visible from above the car body.

Need for fender:

  • It is designed to provide resistance against wind, muds, and roadside particals
  • It is the sheet of metal covering of the car.
  • Fender has a plastic part called Baffle or fender Liner which fits underside the fender to protect the metal from corrosion by stopping the flow of mud and water inside from different road conditions.

Type of fender:

  1. Full Bumper type : Full Bumper Type is not used now a days because it requires large size of balnk to produce the part and it occupies more space.
  1. Half Bumper type : Half Bumper Type Half bumper is used because the waste of material is less & can produce two fender at the same time by slightly increase the raw sheet. and to reduce the weight & cost mostly bumper fender are been produced

FENDER MOUNTING REGION:

  • A- pillar mounting
  • Body mounting
  • Sill mounting
  • Bumper mounting
  • Drip mounting

ASSEMBLY:

There are two kinds of assemblies, which are
Bottom-up assembly
Top-down assembly

Bottom-up assembly: Bottom-up assembly is the recommended method for developing assembly models. The components in this sort of assembly are developed in a part design work bench (As nx cad part) file. Product structure tools are used to create parts in the assembly design workbench. After adding each component, constraints are applied to appropriately arrange them in 3D space in relation to the other components. This construction is suitable for big assemblies with complicated individual components.

Top-down assembly:Components are developed inside the assembly design workbench in the top assembly design technique. As a result, there is no need to generate separate part files for each component. This design technique differs significantly from the bottom-up design approach. Generate the product file first, and then create all the components one by one. Even though the pieces are produced in the product file, they are stored and accessed independently as required. Construction and assembly take place concurrently here.

GIVEN DATA:

DRIP MOUNTING AREA:

  • The drip area would be recognizable fom the opening between Hood and Fender.
  • This mounting is attached to the engine compartment of the car.
  • A min 150mm distance is kept from the front side and a distance 300mm or less can be kept on the rear side .
  • This is to avoid the springback during the manufacturing . the edge of the mounting should atleast 10mm away from any nearby component in the engine.
  • The drip area should be less than 40mm.
  • The embosess that are created on the drip mounting should be flat with respect to the curvature.
  • A dart is provided at the edge of the drip mounting to increase the stiffness.

SILL MOUNTING AREA:

  • This is palced basically at the botom of the fender. The mounting part is created such that it firmly fits to the sill.
  • The embosess that are created on the drip mounting should be flat with respect to the curvature.

A PILLAR MOUNTING AREA:

  • A-pillar mounting is a vertical support on a vehicle. It holds the windshield set up and just downside to the A-pillar fender is mounted to hold the position.

BUMPER MOUNTIING AREA:

  • It is placed at the front side of the fender, the bumper mount area of fender, mounts on the chassis to hold the position.
  • Since Bumpers are mounted over the fender it is called Bumper Mounting Area

BAFFLE OR LINEAR MOUNTING AREA:

  • Usually a baffle is mounted on the fender of the car . It is mounted on the wheel arch area .
  • A plastic unit is placed which is called baffle/splash fender linear mounting is placed.
  • These mountings are created for fixing the baffle/splash mounting.
