FEA - Project - 1 ANALYSIS OF BUCKLING PHENOMENA

ANALYSIS OF BUCKLING PHENOMENA

Topic: Analysis of buckling phenomena of cyclone separator stand

Intro: In this project we do study the how does a buckling will take place when ever the body is subjected to load , by running a base line simulation. later this we will make structure buckling proof by adding the required costraints by sketching the solid parts. in this proect we do also perform the design study to make sure that the strip will placed in the right position so that the structure will become buckling proof.

Analysis Study:

Design model: Cyclone separator (Downloaded from the skill-lync site)

Note: except the stand part ,remaining parts were excluded(hide) from the view to show only stand part.

Base-line Simulation:

To run the Base line simulation the parameters are

Material Applied : Alloy Steel

Fixtures : fix the base of the four coloumns of stand shown in the below picture

Load Applied: 150kN on the top face of the stand and create the mesh to certain refinement level. the mesh can be create as course or fine by sliding the meshrefinement bar.

Now run the base line simulation to know the the model will sustain to the applied load

Note: we can see that in the above picture the structure was buckled due to the applied load. so, to make it buckle proof we need to make a strip with certain thickness and place in the the position that we can get the maximum factor of safety. The below picture shows the strip attached to the model.

So to make sure that the sturucture get buckel proof by adding the strip run the base line simulation again , the below shows the information.the parameters are same for this simuation.

DESIGN STUDY:

preform the design study to make the strip to be placed in the right position that we can get maximum factor of safety. when the load is applied.

in the above figure we can see that the maximum factor of safety was coming at 1000mm and its coming out to be 27.799. so, 1000mm was the correct distance for getting the maximum factor of safety.
