Conceptual design of a building with columns and shear walls
Answer 1)
In the building plan (a) and (b) all shear walls are symmetrical because of same size hence the seismic force there will be uniform. In plan (C) the walls length were different and shear walls are at different alignment hence the seismic force will be non symmetrical. The deflection in (a) and (b) will be same pattern, but in (c) plan deflection will be more and there will be more torsional.
In (a) there will be more shrinkage due to L shaped shear walls. In (b) shrinkage will not be occur due to all sear walls are symmetrically placed.
In ( C ) there will be more deformation due to non symmetrical shear walls
Lateral stiffness will be more in (a) then the (b) but in ( C ) is more then the (a) due to non symmetrical shear walls in ( C ).
Torsional stiffness is more in ( C ) compare to (b) then (a).
In (a) redundancy will be higher then (b) and ( C ). But in (c) redundancy will be lower then the (a) and (b).
In there is no architectural disturbance (a) and (B) compare to ( C ).
In all strip foundation was provided.
Answer 2)
In x direction in two rows the beams are in different alignment and one column size is not same comparing to others, hence there is non symmetrical framing, therefore structure is not in safe from point of earth quake view and there will be lower Redundancy. There is more chance of forming plastic hinges due to discontinue of beams. There will be more Torsional flexibility hence there will be more damage to the building.
Answer 3)
In plan the all columns are not symmetry, the foundation will be raft foundation type. Three columns are in one line / direction but other three were different location. Three columns will be connected by continues plinth beam but for other columns between column to column. Slab shape will be same as raft foundation.
