Comparison of Bending In Beams
Aim: Design, analysis & Comparison of bending in beams.
Objectives: Comparision of resulting strain, deformation, and stress when a given load is applied to the different cross-sections.
Procedure:
- A rectangular cross-section, an I section, and a C section was modeled using Solidworks, extruded to 400mm length, and Alloy steel material configuration was assigned to generate the beams.
- The beams were fixed at one end of the extrusion along the cross-section
- A 1500N load was applied over the top face.
- The simulation was run using a basic mesh.

Observations:
- if we compare the stress plot maximum stress-induced is less on the rectangular beam then on the section and is maximum at C section beam.
- strain figures indicate that maximum change in length takes place in the C section beam and minimum change in length occurs in the l-section beam.
- and the displacement plots indicate that minimum displacement occurs in the rectangular beam after
- the application of 1500N and maximum displacement occurs in the C-section beam.
- also, it can be seen that the c-section beam is subjected to bending, therefore, it is the least preferred among the three beams.
- since stress-induced in both the I-section and rectangular beam is under the yield strength therefore both the beams will sustain the force of 1500N properly without failing, but if we look at the displacement, it is less in the l-section. so, we should prefer the l-section beam
