Comparison of Bending in Beams

Aim : Comparison of bending in beams

Introduction : Here, we are comparing the stress , displacements, strain by applying force and considering different conditions for three different beams having different cross section which are following.

  • Rectangular c/s
  • I shape c/s
  • C shape c/s.

Basics about the Simulations :

Simulation modeling solves real-world problems safely and efficiently. It provides an important method of analysis which is easily verified, communicated, and understood.

The ability to analyze the model as it runs sets simulation modeling apart from other methods, such as those using Excel or linear programming.

Entire case setup :

First of all create the Geometry In our case :

  • Rectangular c/s
  • I shape c/s
  • C shape c/s.

Then apply the following steps ,

  1. Creating a Study. The first step in performing analysis is to create a study.
  2. Assigning Material. - in our case alloy steel is used
  3. Applying Fixtures. - shown in below fig.
  4. Applying Force/ Pressure. we are applying force = 1500 N
  5. Meshing the Model and Running the Study.
  6. Visualizing the Results.
  7. Verifying the Results.

Required images for above steps :

Rectangular Beam - mesh , fixture , force

I beam - mesh , fixture , force

c beam - mesh , fixture , force

Results and Explanations :

reactangular beam - stress,displacement,strain

I beam - stress,displacement,strain

c beam - stress,displacement,strain

Results and Explanations:

The stress,Displacement, strain value is less in Rect.Beam and max in C Beam and the I beam have intermidiate value.

as shown in fig, the c_beam is under the torsion , which is not desirable .

so Considering Rect.beam and I beam the weight or inertia of the I beam is comparetivly less then Rect.beam . Which is useful of optimizing performance. and also The I beam stress , displacement, strain values not mush higher then Rect beam.

As, considering above condition I section Beam is Best for the Use
