Bird Strike - Project - 2
BIRD STRIKE ANALYSIS IN LS DYNA
AIM
To perform the simulation of a bird hitting the blades of an aeroplane's engine which is rotating at higher speed and to find the various amount of energies recorded during the collision.
INTRODUCTION
It is very normal that bird strike impact occuring in aircrafts. The Engines and the windshields of an aircraft are very weekest parts which suffer high energy deformations. Most aircraft companies perform this simulation to determine the safety of engine casing and assembly.
KEYWORD SETUP
- The keyword file is opened and the engine casing, blades , hub and the bird keyword are saved separately
- The nodes, elements , parts, material ids are arranged and renumbered as asked in the question
- Hub is assigned to a Section_solid. The blade, bird, and the engine casing are assigned to shell_section cards
- Bird has been assigned with elastic material and all the other components are assigned with Mat_Piecewise_Linear_Plasticity cards
- Section and material cards are assigned to their respective Part IDs
- Automatic_Single_Surface contact card is defined to observe the self contact between the blade and the bird
- Initial_Velocity_Generation card is defined for the bird and the blade. Velocity of the bird hitting the blade is 13m\s in X-direction and the angular velocity of the blades rotating around the casing is 0.5
- Define_Transformation card for the bird is defined at the distance of 20 units using the translate option. The same Define_Transformation card is defined for blades, hub, and the engine casing using translate command
- All the individual keywords are now included using *INCLUDE
- The termination time for the simultion is 10ms where the time step is calculated for every 0.5ms
- D3plots, NODEOUT, GLSTAT, are defined to observe the deformations.
SIMULATION:
- The bird at an velocity of 13m\s hits an engine blade rotating at an angular velocity of 0.1m\s in X-direction. Since the velocity is very high, when the bird hits an particular blade, the blade gets worn out from the hub which is assembled to the casing. The Effective stress obtained during the collision is attached below.
- A maximum stress of 220.6N\mm2 is obtained at the contact point near the rotating blades.
CONCLUSION:
The bird strike simulation is thus completed and the link of google drive is submitted for validation.
