Assignment 5-RADIOSS Interfaces & Study of Effect of Notches Challenge
Questions:
1. Create the mesh for bumper assembly, mesh size should be 6mm.
2. Run the crash tube model as it is.
3. Change the Inacti=6 and run.
4. Create the type 11 contact and run.
5. Remove both notches and remove boundary condition on rigid body node then run.
6. Create a new notch in the middle, select the whole section and run.
7. Create a new notch with nodes only from opposing 2 faces and run.
Procedure
1 import the model Bumper_System.hm in Hyperworks.
Go to file > import > model
Give model path and import it.
Now switch to “By Topo”
Next step is to create meshing
Go to Preference > Criteria File Setting > Target element size > Criteria 3D > Enter target element size = 6
Then Apply > OK .
Now press F12 for meshing.
Add element size to 6 and mesh type to mixed
Select all surface and Click on mesh
Next process is to create spot welding to join crash box with bumper.
Go to 1D > connectors > spot > spot
So, here we have completed with the end of meshing and using of 1D connector.
Save and exit hyper mesh
Case 1
efore starting the analysis, we have to verify the material, property and interface card value. Now next step is to simulate the model
Go to Analysis > Radios > assign proper path to save the file > select include connector and write -nt 4 > Click Radios
Switch to hyperview to check the result
Energy Error = -3.8 % and Mass Error = 0.000
As we can observe that resultant normal force suddenly goes peak level after 20 m/s and comes to end near about 28 m/s.
Case 2:
In this case we will change the Inacti = 6
After applying the setup run the analysis.
Output file
Energy error = -3.8% and Mass error = 0.000
Graph
As we can observe that Internal energy rises whereas kinetic energy fall down.
In this case Normal force rise above at 20 m/s
Case 3:
Here we will change contact to type 11.
Run the analysis after changing the setup.
Output file
Go to hyperview to check the result.
Energy error = -3.9% and Mass error = 0.000
In this case kinetic energy falls down and Internal energy rise up
Also change in Normal force at 20 m/s
Case 4
Remove both notches and remove boundary condition on rigid body node then run
Import the file and go to Geom > Node Edit > Align node > Select 1 node then second end node and then centre node
By this will we will create notch
Now delete the boundary condition Go to Solver > BCS > Right click delete
Now run the analysis
Go to hyperview to check the result.
Energy error = -3.0 % Mass error = 0.000
Case 5
Create a new notch in the middle, select the whole section and run.
Import the file and go to 3D > elem offset > Shell offset > distance 5 and select the area to create notch
Now save the file to run the analysis. Also, we have to follow the whole step which we did before.
Go to hyperview to check the result.
Energy error = -4.1 % and Mass error 0.000
Case 6
Create a new notch with nodes only from opposing 2 faces and run.
Import the file and create the notch as we did before process
Now save the file by following the previous steps and run the simulation
Switch to hyperview to check the result
Energy error = -4.3 % and Mass error = 0.000
Comparison table
No. of Cycle Energy Error
Case 1 83469 -3.8%
Case 2 83469 -3.8%
Case 3 95547 -3.9%
Case 4 78390 -3.0%
Case 5 96314 -4.1%
Case 6 92795 -4.3%
conclusion:
I learn different tools in hypermesh.
