Meshing of bumper assembly with mesh size of 6mm. To perform simulation on crash tube model using Radioss

Objective:

  • Meshing of bumper assembly with mesh size of 6mm.
  • To perform simulation on crash tube model using Radioss.

Procedure:

  • Import bumper assembly model into hypermesh
  • Mesh the bumper assembly with mesh size of 6mm
  • Add 1D element connector to it such as spot weld

Case1:

  • Import crash tube model into hypermesh as Radioss
  • Run the model as it is

  • we can see internal energy starts from zero and goes on increasing

  • by the above simulation we can see that till the notch area crash tube failing first and after that rest of the tube is crushing

Case2:

  • Change the Inacti=6 and run the file

  • comparing 1st and 2nd case contact force is same

  • we observe that von mises value similar for 1st and 2nd case

Case3:

  • Create the Type11 contact and run the file

  • contact energy increases slightly

  • in this case contact force is slightly increased compared to case 1 and case 2 becase of gapmin factor

Case4:

  • Remove both notches and remove boundary condition on rigid body node then run

  • in this case stress is less contact force is less because of the removal of notch and boundary condition

Case5:

  • Create a new notch in the middle ,select the whole section and run.

  • we can see contact force is less compared to all the above cases

Case6:

  • Create a new notch with nodes only from opposing 2 faces and run.

  • we can see the highest peek point due to opposing notches

Conclusion :

  • by comparing all the results we can say type 11 with recommended property with opposing notch gives the best results
