Assignment 1

Objective: To Extract Midsurface, Permorm geometry cleanup and 2D Meshing of given components.

Procedure: 1. Import Part-1 into Hyperworks in the Optistruct profile.

2.As seen below, the part has missing surfaces and other surface problems

These issues are to be resolved using Geometry cleanup tools like Quick Edit - Filler Surface

Surface Edit - Trim

Quick Edit - Toggle edge

The model after clearing these issues:

3. Now we extract the mid-surface using Geom-Midsurface command. We use the Offsets+Planes+Sweep option.

4. Now we perform Geometry cleanup, defeaturing and ready the midsurface for meshing.

We remove fillets with radius less than 4 mm and pin holes with radius less than 5 mm.

5. Now the midsurface is meshed using 2D - Automesh. Element size is 5 mm and Element type is mixed.

6. As seen above, the mesh quality is poor. We remesh the problem areas to get a better mesh quality

7. Now we assign the thickness to the part as per the parent geometry, ny editing the property file, and assigning Card image as PSHELL.

The model in 2D detailed representation:

8. The Element cleanup plot for the model is as shown:

9. Similarly we mesh the remaining 2 components:

Result:

The given components are meshed by extracting mid-surface, and mesh cleanup operations are carried out.
