Analysis of Plates with holes - FEA
ANALYSIS ON A PLATE WITH HOLES
Aim :
To perform a static analysis on two plates with circular holes and compare the results for stress, strain and displacement obtained from SolidWorks simulation for the 2 case models.
Introduction :
A linear static analysis is an analysis where a linear relation holds between applied forces and displacements. In practice, this is applicable to structural problems where stresses remain in the linear elastic range of the used material. In a linear static analysis the model’s stiffness matrix is constant, and the solving process is relatively short compared to a nonlinear analysis on the same model.
Description :
2 cases of plates are considered for analysis consisting of different number of holes and the following cases are as follows
Conditions, Models & Mesh :
All measurements are in millimeters (mm)
Material : Alloy Steel
Fixed Geometry : any one side of the two smaller faces in each case
Force : 1000N tension force on the other smaller side such that the plate is stretched.
Mesh : Default mesh
Models :

Case 2 :
Stress Analysis :

Case 2 :
Displacement Analysis :

Case 2 :
Strain Analysis :

Case 2 :
Conclusion :
From the above obtained results for Stress, Displacement, Strain analysis out of the 3 cases of plates, it can be concluded that the Case 2 plate with 3 holes has low stress value compared to the Case 1 plate and the strain factor is also low in the second case thus making it more efficient and also has the advantage of high rate for heat dissipation due to larger surface area if the plate comes under any thermal stress.
