WORM GEAR

TRANSIENT STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF WORM GEAR

Procedure:

Firstly, we need to import the geometry into Ansys Workbench. As the analysis is carried using structural steel, the default material is selected. For the model to run in academic version, the geometry is divided into two halves by a plane and cut the part that is not required.

Now open the mechanical module and the parts are renamed. The contacts names are assigned based on their contact parts. The contact surfaces of target and scope are selected and the behavior of contacted Is assigned to frictionless. After assigning contacts, we need to set up revolute joints for both the gears. In analysis settings, the initial, min and max time steps for step 1 is given as 0.2, 0.2, 0.5 respectively with carryover time step turned on. The same analysis settings are assigned to steps 2 to 30 as the analysis is carried in 30 steps. The rotation load is given to worm gear with 50 degree difference in step until it reached 1500. In final step, output parameters are listed and solve the problem.
