Tension and torsion simulation
Objective:
To perform a tension test and a torsion test on the given specimen in Explicit dynamic analysis using ANSYS workbench.
Procedure:
Explicit dynamics module is opened in the project schematic window of ANSYS workbench and renamed accordingly as tension and torsion.
Material used:
Steel 1006 material is selected for the analysis from the Explicit materials section.
Geometry:
The given model is imported into Designmodeler of ANSYS and checked if any abnormalities are present in it.
Meshing:
In Mechanical, the given model is meshed with Sweep method and a mesh size of 1.5mm is chosen.
Analysis settings:
The analyses are run for 0.0005s and the maximum energy error is 0.1.The timesteps are left as Program controlled.
Boundary conditions:
1.Tension test
One end of the specimen is given a fixed support and the other end is given a displacement of 18mm.
2.Torsion test
One end of the specimen is given a fixed support and the other end is given a displacement of 1200 degree. This is done by creating a cylindrical coordinate system for the free end circular face.Displacement is given with respect to Y axis.
Results:
1.Tension test
Total deformation
Equivalent stress
Temperature
2.Torsion test
Total deformation
Equivalent stress
Temperature
Inference:
Conclusion:
Thus, the explicit analyses of tension and torsion tests are conducted on the specimen and results are computed successfully.
