Tension and Torsion test on Steel Specimen
AIM :
To perform Tension and Torsion test on a Steel Specimen and find out Equivalent Stress, total deformation and Temperature.
Model :
Material Selection and their Properties :
1) Steel 1006
A] Tension Test -
Procedure :
- Drag and drop explicit analysis on workspace. In engineering data select the specified materials. In this case, Steel 1006 is selected as materials.
- Open Spaceclaim and import the geometry. Check for any errors and if none are there Close the Spaceclaim.
- Open Mechanical Solver and rename the specimen and apply Steel 1006 as the material.
- Create Coordinate systems on both the ends.
- Mesh the model approriately.
- In analysis settings, let the end time step be 1e-03 and apply fixed support to one end and displacement of 18 mm on other end.
- Now for results, apply equivalent stress,Total deformation and Temperature.
Mesh :

Conclusion -
- As from the above table we can see that the temperature and Stress generated is maximum in Torsion test because of twisting of the specimen.
- In both cases, the stress and temperature generated is maximum at the centre of the specimen.
- In tension test, the fracture is not happened for the given displacement yet.i.e 18 mm.
- In Torsion test, the fracture is occured for the given displacement i.e 1200 degree.
