Project

Tension and Torsion Test Challenge

OBJECTIVE:

- The main objective of this challenge is to perform the tension and torsion test on the specimen and also to plot the total deformation, Equivalent Stress and Equivalent Strain.

PROCEDURE:

- Import the geometry in Space-claim.

- Edit the geometry in ANSYS Mechanical.

- In end portions, assign the co-ordinate systems and create the sphere of influence.

- Mesh with 3mm

- For analysis settings, END TIME assigned is 1e-3 seconds

- Fix one side of the body, to perform the simulation

- Displacement for Tension test is 18mm in axis, create the cylindrical co-ordinate system and the rotation of about Y axis 1200 degrees

TENSION TEST:

TOTAL DEFORMATION is obtained at the maximum value of 1.8001 mm and the minimum value of 0

\"\"

EQUIVALENT STRESS is maximum around the value of 501.31 MPa and the minimum value of 0

\"\"

EQUIVALENT STRAIN is maximum under the value of 0.0023827 mm/mm and the minimum value of 0

\"\"

TORSION TEST:

TOTAL DEFORMATION is obtained at the maximum value of 12.225 mm and minimum under the value of 0

\"\"

EQUILATERAL STRESS is maximum under the value of 660.04 MPa and minimum under the value of 0

\"\"

EQUILATERAL STRAIN is maximum under the value of 0.0032001 mm/mm and minimum under the 0.

\"\".

TABULATION:

\"\"

CONCLUSION:

- As we fixed one end of the rod, minimum deformation is always zero.

- Maximum deformation is high in 1.8001 mm in Tension when compared with torsion.

- Equivalent stress is maximum in Torsion when compared with Tension.

- Equivalent Strain is maximum in Tension when compared with Torsion.
