Project

Surface wrapping of power train components using ANSA

Objective:

  • To perform individual surface wraps for the three separate parts with wrap size for the engine as 8 mm and for the other two parts as 5 mm .

Surface wrapping :

When we have very detiled model inthe sense that the model needs to be meshed with very detailed and small mesh, if the model too many parts and if the mesh size is given smaller then it would result in time consuming in such cases surface wrapping is done to reduce the detailed model and delete the original model , compress it . surface wrapping is procedure likewise putting a blanket for out surface of the model and deleting the original model compressing it and meshing the outside wrap and resuing the simulation time.

Tools used :

  1. Coons- This is an easy way to define a new surface by its boundary curves.
  2. Delete- The delete option is used to delete all the entities which are selected.
  3. Topo- This function automatically creates topological conditions between selected adjacent CONS.
  4. Intersect- This function defines the intersection between two groups of Faces.
  5. perimeter length- It assigns the length for the parts
  6. Release - This function releases a number of selected grid points that belong to more than one FE-MODEL entities.

Procedure:

1. Engine:

As the imported engine model was too detailed just deleted the outer unwanted refrence geometry.

  • As we can observe the detailed geometry is cleared and it is ready to wrap the geometry
  • Using the FILL HOLE for the outer surface of the geomtry filled the hole soo that to wrap
  • Under the elements there is a option called wrap , ithas two sub options variable length and constant length . variable length varies the size at different locations and constant length remains same at all the locations.
  • The contant length of 8 mm was given with the smooth factor of 0.5 was given and wrapped the geometry
  • After wrapping the outer surface the model was deleted and then it was compressed.
  • The below images shows the wrap of the engine which are compressed.
  • The same procedure was followed for both transmission and gera box wikth the constant length of 5 mm as shown below.

2. Transmission

Transmission Model before wrapping :

Transmission Model after wrapping :

3.Gear box

Gear box model before wrapping:

Gear box model after wrapping:

  • After completeing all the three models wrapping next it was merged.
  • Under the file option there is a option called merge using that mergedd all the three models as below.
  • After merging the three models those were assigned for the saperate PIDs to make the work easier.
  • After merging the three models are really not interconnected they were just places beside in order interconnect them deleted the side faces likewise shown below.
  • For creating a complete volume deleted the intemediated surfaces and created a complete colume for all the three models.
  • Under the elements used the delete option and the feature angle of 10 degree was used to make the delete soon.
  • Below shows the images of the volume created of all the three models.
  • Using the Release and paste option released the faces and deleted the faces and patched.

Conclusion:

Surface wrap was created for all the three components, merged them and made a single volume.
