Surface Wrapping of Engine Parts Using ANSA
SURFACE WRAPPING USING ANSA
OBJECTIVE:
- Surface wrapping of individual parts with specific lengths without leakages.
- Merging and making all the components into one voulme without bound errors.
DESCRIPTION:
Surface wrapping is making a surface mesh which is exactly similar to that of outer profile of part without meshing the part surface. It is like covering part with cloth and sucking out all the air to resemble it like a part.
Here 3 individual parts Engine, Gearbox, Transmission has been given having a lot of unecessary parts and open holes.
METHODOLOGY:
- Making perfect outlook and preventing leakages
- Surface wrapping individual parts
- Merging and combining
Making perfect outlook and preventing leakages:
- Model consists of lot of unnecessary parts which will lead to inaccurate surface wrap
- These are deleted with atmost care without deleting part members
- After deleting make sure the part looks perfect if any do undelete and recover
- To prevent leakages in surface wrap the model shouldn't consists of holes
- Release whole geometry and use fill holes among whole geometry to avoid holes.
Surface wrapping individual parts:
- Switch to Mesh mode do wrap -> constant length
- In the dialog box set target length as
-
-
-
-
-
-
- 8mm - Engine
- 5mm - Gearbox and Transmission
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Then delete the whole geometry and compress
- Save files for importing to merge.
Merging and Combining :
- Open new file and import 3 files as open-> merge-> select these 3 saved files ->open.
- Create individuall parts for the 3 components in part manager.
- Enable bound mode to show bounds if any.
- To combine all the 3 as one volume
- delete the inerface surfaces and then join edges.(or)
- first join the surfaces there by forming triple cons and delete the interfaces using PID-region
- The deleting tools are
-
-
- delete under elements
- release under open-foam mode then delete
- delete + feature area with 10degree.
-
-
- joining tools are
-
-
- paste in mesh mode
- new under elements
- fill under surfaces
-
-
- while joining the interfaces to fine tune the mesh elements use Reconstruct, Mvsurf, split depends upon the situiation.
RESULTS:
The following are the resulted images of surface wrap:
- The whole volume of combined surface is shown you can observe the image showing cavity through the surface warp.
- Specific PID lengths of surface warp
CONCLUSION:
- Surface wrapping without any leakages has been sucessufully achieved .
- Complete combining of all the surfaces enabled single volume with any bound errors.
