ANSA- Surface Warp and MergingÂ
Surface Warp and Merging
Objective:
To create a single external surface mesh of engine, transmission and the gear box using surface wrap.
Methodology:
Stage 1: Cleanup Model and Simplify
The models are looked for to find unnecessary parts left over from modelling. These must be removed before performing surface wrap, otherwise these might distort the surface wrap.
Small holes are covered to prevent element distortion at those locations during surface wrap. This is done by releasing all the CONs and uisng the FIll Hole Option.
Stage 2: Surface Wrap each component and merge together
Each of the three components are surface wrapped individually. The target element length is selected appropriately.
The geometry is now deleted and only the surface wrap is retained. Then a merge is done to include the transmission and gear box to the same model.
File> Merge- Select files from the window.
In the parts manager, three separate parts are created for engine, transmission and gear box.
At the junction of the three surface wraps interference exists. The interfering faces are deleted and patched to create a single surface separating the outside volume from inside volume.
Result:
A leak free surface is thus obtained easily using surface wrap, without involving the complex process of topo cleanup. This FE model can be used to perform flow analysis around it.
