Project

Static Structural Analysis of Railwheel Track with different loads using ANSYS WORKBENCH

Objective: Perform Static Structural Analysis of Railwheel with Track setup by giving different loads on it and determine total deformation, equivalence stress, equivalence strain and check whether user defined result inbuilt in ANSYS of total deformation is achieved or not.

Setup:

Geometry

Contacts

Mesh

Global mesh size is 50 mm while the faces which will be in contact are made of mesh size 35 mm

Joints

Two faces of track are kept fixed.

Translation is given at along X direction by selecting the shaft.

Planar is given on back face of Railwheel.

Analysis Settings:

Bearing load

Load of 10 KN and 50 KN along negative Y direction is given.

Displacement of 100 mm is given for each substeps.

Case 1:

(i) Bearing load of 10000N

Total deformation:

Min.= 0 mm , Max.= 998.93 mm

Equivalent Elastic strain:

Min.= 9.73xe-18 , Max.= 1.56xe-3

Equivalent von mises stress:

Min.= 1.91xe-12 MPa , Max.= 161.49 MPa

(ii) Bearing load of 50000N

Total deformation:

Min.= 0 mm , Max.= 999.06 mm

Equivalent Elastic strain:

Min.= 4.74xe-17 , Max.= 3.75xe-3

Equivalent von mises stress:

Min.= 9.31xe-12 MPa , Max.= 665.33 MPa

Case 2:

Using user defined result inbuilt in ANSYS for 10000N

Min.= 0 mm , Max.= 998.93 mm

Conlusion:

Case 1:

Comparing for load 10000N and 50000N

  • For total deformation, Maximum deformation is observed in 50000N as that to 10000N.
  • For Equivalent Elastic Strain, Maximum Elastic strain alongwith its Minimum value is observed in 50000N as that to 10000N.
  • For Von-mises stress, Maximum stress is obtained in 50000N with value of 665.33 MPa as compared to 10000N with value of 161.49 MPa.

Case 2:

We get same value with user defined result inbuilt in ANSYS for 10000N as compared to Normal solution obtained by solver.
