Project

Side Crash Analysis of a NEON Car Model

Objective:

To determine check and create the properties for a neon side crash model.

Case setup and execution :

1. Import the model and Check its unit of the Model -

kg mm ms kN

2. Check the properties and interface with friciton 0.2 on the Model.

3. Delete all groups and assign the type 7 properties to the model

4. Compare the model with the interface one and add masses to the component wherever needed to reach the target mass of 750Kg

5.Use model checker to have a good quality

6.Use penetration check to check the interferance

7.Use the rigid bodies if any required

8. Run for 80 ms

9. Create a cylindrical pole of a radius 254mm

10.Create a Cross section at a different points at the A pillar and B pillar intrusions

Results :

Von mises Stress plot and the Displacement plot

The overalll strength of the b-pillar and a pillar strength has to be increased in order to resisit the impact.

Intrusions at the Node

Specific energy at the node 528902 value is listed below .This contact energy is around 1600J and total energy is 87000 J .

Resultant velocity at the node 337773 node is plotted below with max of 16mm/ms

Research : (Including Passenger compartment deacceralation)

The passenger compartment deceleration depends on the energy absorption property of the front structures The sum of the contribution of each component coincides with the passenger compartment deceleration in all types of impacts; therefore, the validity of this method was confirmed. In the full-width impact, the contribution of the crush box was large in the initial phases, and the contribution of the passenger compartment was large in the final phases. For the powertrain deceleration, the crush box had a positive contribution and the passenger compartment had a negative contribution. In the offset test, the contribution of the honeycomb and the passenger compartment deformation to the passenger compartment deceleration was large

Occupant protection is one of the most important issues in the development of a car. The injury risks to the occupant depend on the deceleration and the intrusion of the passenger compartment.

To design the shape of the crash pulse, a deceleration–displacement curve is used. Considering the integral of deceleration with displacement, using adx = (dv/dt)dx = vdv, we obtain,

Result :

Based on the energy-derivative method, the contribution of the components\' deformation to deceleration of the passenger compartment can be calculated for various types of crash configurations more easily, directly, and quantitatively than by using conventional methods. In addition, by combining the energy-derivative method and FIR, each structure\'s contribution to the occupant deceleration can be obtained. The energy-derivative method is useful in investigating how the deceleration develops from component deformations and also in designing deceleration curves for various impact configurations

1. Resultant velocity at the Section of node 337773 of b pillar is 16 m/ms

COG is important and plays a vital role in the stability of the structure.

Energy Error are accepted and well below the criteria of the Design aspects.

Better seating will improve the protection of the side crash analysis.
