Sheetmetal Casting Using NX CAD
TITLE: SHEETMETAL CASTING
OBJECTIVE: The main objective of the project is to design sheet metal casting using NX CAD.
INTRODUCTION: In this tutorial, I have learned the step by step procedure to design a \'Sheetmetal Casting\' using Seimens NX Sheetmetal Application.
WORKFLOW:
DESCRIPTION:
STEP 1: INTRODUCTION
- Start NX 12 and create a new Sheet metal design called casting.
- Create a sketch in the XY plane and draw a rectangle centered at the origin with an X-length of 60mm and a Y-width of 50mm.
- Exit the sketch mode.
STEP 2: DESIGN PARAMETER
- Go to Menu>Preference>sheetmetal.
- Change the global parameters to 1mm.
STEP 3: ADDING A SOLID SHEET AND CUTOUT
- Use the Tab button for creating a rectangle metal sheet of 1mm in thickness.
- Create a new sketch in the plane P containing the upper face of the rectangle sheet and parallel to the XY plane.
- In that sketch, draw a rectangle symmetric w.r.t the x-axis which coincides with the left edge. The rectangle is 5mm wide and 40mm long.
- Exit the sketch mode and use the cutout button for making a rectangular hole in the metal sheet.
STEP 4: BENDING
- Again, draw a sketch in the plane P consisting of two symmetric horizontal line w.r.t x-axis.
- Exit the sketch mode and click the bend button.
- Change the angle to 90 degrees.
STEP 5: ADDING FLANGES
- Click on the flange button. Use a length of 5mm and apply the flanges on the sheet metal.
- Apply the same flanges on the below edges of the sheet metal in counterpart.
STEP 6: BREAKING CORNERS
- Click on the break corners button. In the dialog box, use the blend method with a radius of 1mm.
- Apply the break corners to the edges of the metal sheet.
STEP 7: UNBENDING
- Click on the unbend button. In the dialog box, select a stationary face and bend face one of its adjacent faces.
STEP 8a: ADDING HOLES
- Create a sketch in the P plane.
- In the lower part of the sheet metal draw a line in which extremities are located in the middle.
- Draw a point at the center of this line.
- Finally, from that point create asymmetric points w.r.t the x-axis of the datum coordinates system.
STEP 8b: ADDING HOLES
- Click on the hole button. In the dialog box, select M2 as screw size and H13 as fit and through body as depth limit.
- Create four holes centered on the four defined points.
STEP 9a: ADDING A DIMPLE
- In the XY plane, create the following cross sketch, where each half side is 5mm in length.
- Click on the studio spline button. In this dialog box, set by poles as type.
- Select all 16 points in clockwise direction and click OK to validate the new spline curve.
- Click on the move curve button. In this dialog box, select the spline curve set the motion option in transform field to angle.
- Finally, enter an angle of 45 degrees and click OK to validate.
STEP 9b: ADDING A DIMPLE
- Click on the dimple button and select the spline curve.
- Set the depth option to 1mm and sidewalls to material inside.
- Click Ok to validate your dimple.
STEP 10: ADDING BEADS
- In the XY Plane, draw the circle of 5mm in diameter.
- Click on the beads button. In the dialog box, select the circle and set the depth and radius options to 1mm.
- In rounding field, set the die radius to 1mm.
STEP 11: RE-BENDING
- Click on the rebend button.
- Re-bend the face by selecting them.
STEP 12: DRAFTING
- Go to File>Drafting
- Click on base view and specify model view.
- Click Settings>General>change Scale size according to your wish and Click OK to Validate.
