Perform the grid dependency test on Bevel gear assembly
Objectives;
To perform a grid dependency test on Bevel gear assembly in diff mesh size like 4mm.5mm & 6mm and obtained Van-Mises stress, Equivalent stress, and Total Deformation.
Grid Dependency Test,
Grid Dependency Test or Grid independency Test or Mesh Refinement Test are the same all mean. Refine mesh does not change any stress value like equivalent and total stress.
Grid dependency test where analysis begins with a coarse mesh and refined to finer mesh for each run until the result doesn\'t change significantly. The aim of this test is too find the optimum mesh size for the solution.
Procedure;
Case 1; 4mm Mesh,
In first case is to assign the 4mm mesh.
Structural steel material in engineering data then import the geometry in gemetry file. After that open model file select the material (structural steel) and check the co-ordinates system.
Goto the contact section two gears connects with frictional type and two gears are rotates in revolute joints. Then mesh the model in 4mm element size.
Then, select the static structural develop the analysis setting and assign the joint-rotation angle to small gear(conduct) after that joint -moment (Z-direction,100N) to big gear (target). which results you want include the solution section like total deformation and stress and equivalent strain.
Case 2; 5mm Mesh,
In first case is to assign the 5mm mesh.
Structural steel material in engineering data then import the geometry in gemetry file. After that open model file select the material (structural steel) and check the co-ordinates system.
Goto the contact section two gears connects with frictional type and two gears are rotates in revolute joints. Then mesh the model in 5mm element size.

Case 2; 6mm Mesh,
In first case is to assign the 6mm mesh.
Structural steel material in engineering data then import the geometry in gemetry file. After that open model file select the material (structural steel) and check the co-ordinates system.
Goto the contact section two gears connects with frictional type and two gears are rotates in revolute joints. Then mesh the model in 6mm element size.

Comparision and Discussion;
The Grid dependency were performed these three cases. Total deformation values doesn\'t change each mesh. its same value(47.87mm) occurs there. Grid dependency or mesh refinement preformed each case and coarse mesh were again meshed that the side.
As the element size was reduced from the coarse to fine it can be observed thats nodes and elements also incresed shown in the table.
Obtained results, maximum preferred maximum better results delivered 4mm mesh only. Because this mesh equivalent stress mostly fine compared to the another mesh results(equivalent strain and vaon-mise stress).
The mesh was made finer in 4mm no change in equivalent stress observed from the grid dependency. If the mesh size is further reduced, it will increase only computational time increases so optimal mesh is 4mm.
