Perform an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire

Objective: Perform an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire using 3 different types of materials for the wire.

Methodology:

In this Simulation process, I can compare three cases as per given and compare the cases.

Step 1- Import Model

Step 2 - Setup The Simulation

Import the Material from ANSYS material library, I have to performed an analysis to simulate the bending of wire in ANSYS. I have to used Copper Alloy (Non-Linear), Aluminium Alloy (Non-Linear) and Magnesium Alloy (Non-Linear) for the wire alone.

Step-3: Defined Contact

In This Step, I Can be defined contacts between wire and lever. The lever is movable and wire is in contact in lever. and also defined contact between wheel and wire. Defined Contacts showing following Images.

Step-4: Defined Joints

the lever is moving circular and wire is contacted with frictional hence wire also rotate and bend as per path followed by the lever.

Step 4: Defined Analysis Setting

Case 1

Material Used in Case 1

Post-Processing

Solution:

Results:

Equivalent Stress

Maximum Stress that occurred in the Aluminium Alloy Nl is 325.2 MPa

Equivalent Strain

maximum Strain occurred in the Aluminium Alloy Nl is 0.0046151

Total Deformation

Total Deformation occurred in the Aluminium Alloy Nl is 262.64 mm

Case 2.

Material

Result:

Equivalent Stress

Maximum Stress that occurred in the Copper Alloy Nl is 336.09 MPa

Equivalent Strain

maximum Strain occurred in the Copper Alloy Nl is 0.003069

Total Deformation

Total Deformation occurred in the Copper Alloy Nl is 262.64 mm

Case 3

Material

Result

Equivalent Stress

Maximum Stress that occurred in the Stainless Steel Nl is 282.02 MPa

Equivalent Strain

maximum Strain occurred in the Stainless Steel Nl is 0.0015763

Total Deformation

Total Deformation occurred in the Stainless Steel Nl is 262.64 mm

Conclusion

When I study three cases, I Can notice the stress and strain graphs varies linearly it means the stress is directly proportional to strain. This Simulation Behaves under elastic limits.

The total Deformation is not changed in all three cases. The maximum Stress-induced in copper alloy NL material i.e 336 Mpa.
