Meshing of cylinder geometry using ANSA

Objective:

To perform meshing on a cylinder model using ANSA.

Geometry:

  • The first step is to import the given geometry file into ANSA. After the model is imported did a check on the presentation parameters to make sure CONS are enabled in PID mode.
  • The next step is to make sure properties are assigned to the boundary faces of the cylinder for meshing. This was done using set PID under faces section and the respective faces were selected by enabled cross hatches.

Meshing:

  • To start the meshing process, its necessary to switch to the meshing module and select spot mesh under the mesh generation tab.
  • To define the size of each element, under perimeters, the length button is clicked, all faces are selected and under length, the required element size of 1 is given.
  • The mesh domain is discretised into a number of nodes and the distance between each node is measured to be approximately 1 unit.
  • To generate the mesh, spot mesh button is clicked under mesh generation. All faces are selected and a mixed mesh consisting of quad elements and tria elements was generated.

Conclusion:

A mixed shell mesh was generated consisting of 263,262 elements with an element size of 1 for the given geometry.
