Meshing of BMW M6

AIM : To mesh the BMW model using ANSA.

PROCEDURE : Step 1 :

  1. BMW model is imported for the geometry clean-up
  2. We first isolate only the body where we corrected the single and triple cons .We also used the intersect feature to trim the unnecessary surfaces.
  3. Here to create one volume , we deleted the inner surfaces of the logo and also created a smooth surface for the logo on the top.

Step 2 :

  1. Here we find the edges of the windows consisted of triple cons so in order to to have meshing , we only need one single volume.
  2. So in order to create that, we delete the common area and the extra voume by deleting.

Step 3 :

  1. After covering windows and the upper body , we resolve the issue under the grills.
  2. Side grill, here we deleted the extra surface and the faces of the fins.
  3. In order to have the smooth curve and single volume we first cut the surface and created the new faces.\\
  4. Center grill, here again we deleted the common surfaces .
  5. But here we need to project the coons on the inside surface and this delete the face, but while doing this we had triple cons so we deleted the unnecessary area and paste thos cons to create the double cons.
  6. Intake manifold, here also we deleted the extra faces and surfaces and with the help of the cut we performed cut action at the bottom of the grill.
  7. With the help of the project cons , we projected(frame of the grill) them on the grills so that a reference is generated and with the help of that , we can interect cut that was interference with the frame.
  8. We delete those faces and create new faces, but before that we used cut under mesh in order to create the better surfaces.
  9. Lights, here we faced the same situation as of the windows , so we delete the volume of the lights thus creating only single cons

Step 4 :

  1. Car base, here we use the intersect and delete the unnecessary surfaces,
  2. Here there are lot of irregular surfaces so we delete irregularities create/insert hot points accordingly and create new surfaces.
  3. Exhaust, the surfaces we created for the bottom of the body intersects with the exhaust, so we use the zone cut and then glide to make the proper plane surface.
  4. Tyres, for tyres we project the double cons on the rim , creating the triple cons and thus we delete the inner volume and we rectify that.

Step 5 :

  1. After rectifying all the errors , we assign pids and name the common layers
  2. Thus our next step is meshing.

Step 6 :

  1. We first run the geometry check and solve all the single and double cons.
  2. By defining various length for the meshing , we mesh the whole model with TRIA elements.
  3. After that, we perform surface checks where we rectify the errors for the model by cut option (in case for the rims), delete the surfaces in case of sharp edges and change parameters for intersection pid.
  4. After that we define mesh cleaning parameters i.e.skewness,warping,min & max length, min & max angle.

Step 7 :

  1. In order to clean the geometry , we use the reconstruction feature, for some elements we MV free or paste , we rectify some elements by using the cut option.
  2. Thus by this all the errors for mesh parameters are cleaned.

Step 8 :

  1. We create the symmetry of the half of the body by using 3 points.
  2. In order to create the surface mesh , we create wind tunnel
  3. For that we use the relative to create points and then create the curves .
  4. To create the plane , we must points at x,y,z co-ordinates so we use the same relative to create points and then create the plane.

Step 9 :

  1. The wind tunnel we created must be intersected with the extra surfaces so we perform that.
  2. Now in order to mesh , we give various length parameters and we mesh.

CONCLUSION : The meshing of the BMW model is performed.
