Project

Meshing cylindrical model in ANSA

Objective:

The main objective of this project is to Mesh the cylindrical part, using ANSA. Also to understand the process before performing the mesh.

Methodology:

  • Importing the solid model into ANSA software
  • Changing the model property from ENT(Entity) to PID(property) mode
  • Checking the Quality criteria of the model.
  • Geometry checkup
  • Asiging Property condition
  • Selecting Meshing Property
  • Meshing
  • Checking the Mesh quality

Importing the solid model:

Here we are importing the solid model into the Ansa workbench. This is done by opening the file which is stored in the system directory.

After imporitng the file, if the visibility of the model is in wireframe condition, then we can change it into the shadow mode. In the below screenshot we can see that solid model is disabled.

By enabling the shadow mode option we can change the wireframe into the solid model.

Changing the model property from ENT(Entity) to PID(property) mode:

After enabling shadow mode, now its the time to change the solid model from Entity mode to the Property mode which is our main objective also.

In the above pic, we can see that ENT mode is changed to PID mode, which can observe near the shadow enabling option. Now our model is ready to set the PID condition.

Checking the Quality criteria of the model:

Before entering into the PID condition, we need to do some quality criteria and Geometry checkup.

In the last pic of the model, we can observe that the edges of the model were disbaled So to enable the edges/cons as visible we need to enable the Visualization check box which is present in Performance paramteres tab under the quality criteria menu.

After enabling the Draw CONS in PID,MID..check box under Visualization option, the edges/ cons are enabled in our model, which we can see in the below pic.

Geometry checkup:

Now its the time for checking the Geometry status of the model. This is present inthe check tool list.

The below pic shows that geomtery checkup window before execution. We can observe that the status is unchecked here. Also the geometry criteria like single cons, triple cons, cracks etc are enabled before execution, we can modify this according to our model.

After execution, we can see that the status is now verified with green tick mark. Also execution is completed 100%.

Asinging Property condition:

Before going to set PID condition, we need to make sure that cross hatching mode is enabled. This helps in seleting the faces and surfaces in which we need to set the PID condition.

After doing the above process, we can proceed to set PID condition.

For doing this click on the cross hatch in the model, that will select the particular face. Then select the set PID option which is present under FACES menu and select the Faces/Shells button and then click the scroll button in the mouse.

A new property window will open, In that by right clicking the mouse we can see the menubar, in that select New-->PSHELL

This will create a default property, with a different colour to that selected face. We can rename that default as per our need. Here I have renamed as Outlet. Then center click the mouse and give ok.

A new Property condition is assigned to the selected face.

By doing this operation we can set property to the different surface and face as per our need. Now we are assinging the PID for another face and naming as inlet.

After setting PID condiotion for all the surface, we can proceed to MESH property. Till now these initial operations are done under TOPO menu.

Meshing:

Now for doing Meshing, we need to go under the Mesh menu.

Before starting the Meshing operation we should set the Length for our nodes under the Perimeter menu. For this select all the edges of the model and select length then define as 1 units.

After setting perimeter, we can crosscheck the length of the nodes with the measuring tool.

For doing mesh, select the Spot mesh under Mesh generation menu. Select the solid model fully, then in the options menu which is present in right bottom select the Element as Tria and enable the reconstruct option. By center clicking the mouse mesh generation will start which we can see in Tool bar with %.

After meshing:

Checking the Mesh quality:

After completing the meshing operation, we can check the mesh quality under check manager. select the surface mesh check_CFD

In this window , we can see the check box enabled for different properties and conditions, which we have set before meshing. By clicking on execute button , we can see the results.

The above pic shows the final results after performing check manager.

Learning Outcome & Result::

Thus Meshing is done is with total 592366 tira for the given solid model.

From this project the outcomes are

  • converting the solid model from ENT to PID.
  • Pesentation parameters check
  • Geometry check
  • PID conditions for different surface
  • Setting node length and measuring the same
  • Spot mesh with tria elements
  • Checking Mesh quality
