Mesh Cleanup on 2D SHELL Elements using Hypermesh
Objective:
- Download and Import the models with extension .hm
- Clean up the given models
- Extract the mid surface for the models
- Now hide the original component
- Using quick edit, edit the mid surface of the models
- Fill the holes with dia less than 5mm
- Create 2D mesh by keeping the element length as l=5mm and the limits as 3.5mm<l<7mm
- Now move the mesh to the original component and assign thickness property
Case set up and Execution:
Model-1:
- Model 1 is imported
- The imported geometry is cleaned up using various tools in quick edit
- Toggle edge
- Delete surface
- Add/remove points
- Filler surface
- Now auto mesh is used to generate the mesh with element size as 5mm.
- The mesh is checked for quality and cleaned up using element cleanup.
- Now the mesh is moved to the original part from the mid surface.
- And thickness property is assigned.
Model 2:
Steps followed for this model are the same as the steps followed for model 1.
Model 3:
Steps followed for this model are the same as the steps followed for model 1.
Results and Conclusion:
- Models are cleaned up using quick edit
- The mid surface was extracted
- The 2D auto mesh was generated with 5mm as element thickness and the limits as 3.5mm and 7mm.
- The quality of the mesh is checked and cleaned up using element cleanup.
- The mesh was moved to the original model and thickness was assigned.
Thus, all the points mentioned in the objective are successfully carried out using Altair Hypermesh (Radioss) software.
