Mesh Cleanup on 2-D Shell Elements using HyperMesh
Objective: To carryout geometry cleanup oeration on the given files and convert all of them into refine geometry:-
- Clean the geometry.
- Extract Midsurface.
- Clean Midsurface geometry.
- Ignore holes less than 5mm diameter.
- Create 2D mesh by keeping the element length as 5mm and the limits as +/-3.5mm.
- Assign proper thickness, by creating a generic property.
Case Set up and Execution:
Model-1:
The model is imported.
The geometry of the model is cleaned up using surface edit and various tools in quick edit
- Toggle Edge
- Add or Remove points
- Delete Surface
- Filler Surface
Now midsurface is extracted and cleaned.
Holes below dia of 5mm is closed using filler surface tool in quick edit.
The 2-D mesh is created using automesh feature with element length as 5mm.
The mesh generated is checked for quality and cleaned up using various tools like smooth, element cleanup etc.
The mesh is moved from midsurface to its original geometry and thickness property is assigned.
Model-2:
Steps followed for this model is same as model 1.
Model-3:
Steps followed for this model is same as model 1.
Results and Conclusion:
- Models are cleaned using tools such as surface edit, quick edit etc.
- Midsurface was extracted and cleaned.
- 2-D mesh is generated using automesh tool with element length as 5mm with limits min.3 .5mm and max. 7mm.
- The quality of the mesh is checked and cleaned up.
- The mesh was moved from midsurface to original geometry and proper thickness was assigned.
