Project

MESHING CYLINDRICAL GEOMETRY USING ANSA FOR INTERNAL FLOW SIMULATION

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this project is to mesh the given cylindrical geometry using the preprocessing software ANSA for internal flow simulation.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FOR GEOMETRY ERRORS.

2. ASSIGNING RELEVANT PID\'S.

3. MESH GENERATION.

4. CHECK FOR ERRORS IN THE MESH CREATED.

1. CHECK FOR GEOMETRY ERRORS

The CAD model is imported and at first the wireframe view is seen as shown below.

To view the solid model the shadow mode is turned on and PID is selected instead of ENT.

Geometry errors such as single cons and triple cons are checked. In this model there are no geometry errors and also no surface errors, such as intersections of two surfaces. The given model is void of any such errors.

2. ASSIGNING RELEVANT PID\'S

In this model there are only three surfaces namely INLET, OUTLET and WALL. The respectivve PID\'s are assigned to these surfaces and then mesh generation is carried out.

3. MESH GENERATION.

In the mesh module, first element length is defined for the model. It is assigned by using perimeters > length function where the value is set to 1 unit.

By using the measuring tool the element size is measured and verified for its value.

Finally, to generate the mesh, spot mesh option is used under the tab MESH GENERATION. Here tria elements are used to get highly accurate results. The below figure shows the final meshed geometry.

The number of elements are 605032, for the element size 1.

4. CHECK FOR ERRORS IN THE MESH CREATED.

Once the mesh is generted mesh checks are performed such as penetrations, mesh sharp edges, unmeshedd macros and so on. If the model passes all these test, then the mesh is considred to be a valid one.

CONCLUSION

  • The given model is checked for geometry and surface errors.
  • Each surface is assigned to its respective PID\'s.
  • The surface mesh is created with an element size of 1 unit.
  • Generated mesh is checked for errors and validated.
