Hemming of Hood in ANSA
OBJECTIVE: To remove all topological error and perform hemming operation for a given hood panel.
METHODOLOGY:
- Geometry clean up
- Isolating inner panel and extracting the midplane.
- Isolating inner panel and extracting the midplane
- Assigning PID and thickness to both midplanes.
- Isolating Hemming region and assigning PID and thickness.
- Setting mesh qualities as given in the problem.
- Removing all mesh errors.
PROCEDURE:
INNER PANEL:
All geometrical errors like needle face, single cons and cracked between cons were removed.
Midplane was extracted using OFFSET command. All geometrical errors were removed and PID was assigned with thickness as 0.75mm.
OUTER PANEL:
Isolated outer panel and removed all geometrical errors.
Here we used MID SURFACE to extract surface. New PID and thickness were assigned automatically.
HEMMING:
To form the hemming region, first, the two mid planes were separated and locked.
Then outer edges of the outer panel were projected on both inner panel surface and outer panel surface.
Surfaces were removed and a region isolated by triple cons was formed.
This new region was assigned PID and thickness of 2.25mm.
MESHING THREE PIDS
Now all mesh criteria given in problem was assigned:
| S.N | Quality Criteria | Value |
| 1 | Aspect Ratio | 3 |
| 2 | Skewness | 0.45 |
| 3 | Warping | 30 |
| 4 | Taper | 0.5 |
| 5 | Min. Length | 3mm |
| 6 | Max. Length | 7mm |
| 7 | Min angle Quad | 45 |
| 8 | Max angle Quad | 135 |
| 9 | Min angle Tria | 30 |
| 10 | Max angle Tria | 110 |
| 10 | Tria % | 15 |
All mesh quality-related errors were solved. Most of these errors were solved using Reconstruct. Still, there were more than a hundred errors which were solved manually.
CONCLUSION:
- Removed all geometrical errors.
- Extracted mid surfaces of both inner and outer panel.
- Created Hemming region with thickness.
- Assigned all parameters on which mesh qualities were to be checked
- Removed all errors after meshing.
