Geometry Cleanup of Housing and Plastic Components using Hypermesh
Challenge 4 Objectives:
1. Geometry Cleanup for Housing Model using Hypermesh.
2. Geometry Cleanup & Midsurface extraction for Plastic Model using Hypermesh.
Introduction:
- Geometry cleanup involves in Importing CAD Model and Repairing CAD Model, Generating Midsurface, Simplifying Geometry and Refining Topology to achieve good quality Mesh.
- Topology repairs include Missing Surfaces, Duplicate Surfaces and Unconnected surfaces as shown below.
Objective 1: Geometry cleanup for Housing Model involves in following steps as shown.
a. Importing CAD Geometry
b. Performing Topology Repair
c. Defeaturing of geometry
a. Importing CAD Geometry from the given Housing model step file using the import Geometry option as shown.
b. Performing Topology Repair:
Step 1: Putting geometry in Topology mode using By Topo Option as shown.
Step 2: Identify the Possible topology repairs. From the above, we can observe some surfaces are missing which can be fixed by filler Surface option.
c. Defeaturing of geometry involves removing surface edges which will impact the size of the element so to do so Toggle option is used as shown below.
Results: Hence Geometry Cleanup for Housing Model using Hypermesh is done successfully.
Objective 2: Geometry Cleanup & Midsurface extraction for Plastic Model using Hypermesh.
a. Importing CAD Geometry
b. Performing Topology Repair & Defeaturing of geometry
c. Midsurface Extraction
a. Importing CAD Geometry from the given Plastic model step file using the import Geometry option as shown.

b. Performing Topology Repair & Defeaturing of geometry:
Step 1: Putting geometry in Topology mode using By Topo Option as shown.
Step 2: Identify the Possible topology repairs. From the above, we can observe some surfaces are missing which can be fixed by filler Surface option & Surface creation options like ruled & spline. Also, Geometry defeaturing is done.
c. Midsurface Extraction involves in extracting midsurface using Auto midsurface option with thickness limit below 6 mm.
Results: Hence Geometry Cleanup & Midsurface extraction for Plastic Model using Hypermesh is done successfully.
Conclusions:
1. Geometry Cleanup for Housing Model using Hypermesh is completed successfully.
2. Geometry Cleanup & Midsurface extraction for Plastic Model using Hypermesh is completed successfully.
