Project

Frontal crash analysis

Objective:

To perform the frontal crash analysis on Neon BIW model on the rigid wall and analyze the Sectional force in the rails,Axial force received on the rails,Shotgun cross sectional foces,Acceleration curve received on the accelerometer at base of B pillar,intrusions on dash wall for particular nodes.

Meshing is done in Hypermesh optistruct and solver used is RADIOSS.

Procedure:

The model is imported into RADIOSS.

Type 7 interface is created as it is most preferable in crash analysis and maaster,slave nodes are assigned,with below properties.

Inacti=6

Idel=2

Igap=2

Istf=4

Iform=2

Fric=0.2

checking and solving the intersections and penetrations.

The rigid wall is created in front of BIW in X direction,with friction o.1 and Dsearch=1000

By using added mass the target weight of 700kgs is added on the floor panel and mass is added to move thr COG to the middle of the body.

The nodal timestep and run time 80 is set.

The crosssections are created on required parts to analyze the force on particular areas like rails,shotguns,a pillers using local co ordinate systems.

The accelerometer is set on base of B-piller to measure the velocity experienced by the b pillers during crash.

Outout blocks are created for the results for above stated cross sections and accelerometers and required intrusions.

Results:

Cross sectional forces in Rail

By analysing the ABOVE GRAPH we can say that the left rail is experiencing more impact comparing to the left rail.

Cross sectional forces in Shot gun

By observing the above the above graphs both left shotgun and right shotgun experiencing the same amount of force.

Total resultant force:- 1.4 KN

Cross sectional forces in A-piller

By observing the above graphs,we can say left A-piller is experiencing the more force of impact durin the crash compared to right one.

Acceleraton curves

BY observing the accelerometr graphs we can say there is slight difference b/n bothe accelerometers.

Resultant acceleration in 1:- 7.4 mm/ms2

Resultant acceleration in 1:- 6.0 mm/ms2

Energy curves during crash

The above graph shows the energies plotted durin the crash.

from the above graph we can observe the kinetic energy goes on decreasing as it started at 87000

INternal energy goes on increasing and a max of 34000

total energy is almost constant like :87000

hourglass energy being neglisible.

Intrusions

The above graph shows the displacement at a selected point 1.

Resultant displacement:- 1140 mm

The above graph shows the displacement at a selected point 1.

Resultant displacement:- 1140 mm

RESULT LIST

Total resultant force:- 1.4 KN

Resultant acceleration in 1:- 7.4 mm/ms2

Resultant acceleration in 1:- 6.0 mm/ms2

kinetic energy:- 87000

INternal energy:-34000

Total energy:-87000

Resultant displacement:- 1140 mm
