Creating the 2D and 3D meshing for the given models and editing the Engine files using Hypermesh, Radioss and Hyperview.
Objective:
To create the 2D and 3D mesh for the given models and also perform Radioss for the given engine file.
Procedure and Answers:
Download the provided files.
- The material properties of the rail component are mentioned in the FIRST_RUN_0000.rad file. Density=0.0078 and Young\'s Modulus=210000. Therefore, the speed of sound in steel rail C=5188.745mm/ms.
- Time taken for the shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other=0.1927ms.
- Time taken for sound to travel the length of the rail=0.1927ms.
- Termination time is equal to the time taken for sound to travel the length of the rail=0.1927ms.
5.Perform Radioss on given .rad files
- Open Hypermesh and click on Import Solver Desk.
- Select Radioss and open the FIRST_RUN_0000.rad file and click on import.
- Now go to View-Browsers-Hypermesh-Solvers.
- In solvers, click on ENGINE_KEYWORDS.
- Now click on RUN and edit the Tstop value to 0.192
- Also, click on ANIM then ANIM/DT and edit the Tfreq value to 0.009635
or the values can also be edited in the FIRST_RUN_0001.rad file.
- Now go to Analysis-Radioss-run number=4 and click on Radioss. This will run and give us 20 animation files as output.
- Now open Hyperview and open the .h3d file to view all the 20 animations files.
- Now click on Contour to see the animation of Displacement of Shockwave.
6. Printout cycle frequency is -10. These results can be seen in FIRST_RUN_0001.rad file. It terminates after evry 10 cycles and checks for errors.
7. 2D and 3D meshing:
Hub and Cover:
- Open the model in Hypermesh
- Now hide the cover so that only hub is visible.
- Make the hub as the current component.
- As it is already 2D meshed go to 3D mesh select TETRA MESH and give the parameters and tet collapse =0.15.
- Now select all the elements and click on the Mesh.
- Now hide the hub and make cover as current component and perform the 3D TETRA MESH with given parametrs similar to hub.
- Now make both components visible and perform mask to verify the meshing.
Arm Cover:
- Open the model in Hypermesh.
- Except for base hide all other parts.
- Use 2D mesh on the base top surface using only quad elements and size as 10, then use element offset.
- Now isolate only arm and use spin to mesh the component.
- Now isolate the arm straight.
- First, create a face on the arm curve and then create 2D mesh on the face of the arm straight and then use the linear solid option to mesh.
- Now for the boss part, we use solid map option.
- Now use mask option to verify the meshing.
Conclusion:
- Performed 2D and 3D mesh with the given mesh size parameters and tet collapse is checked.
- Using the .rad file we have calculated the values by editing the engine run files.
- Using the files obtained from .rad files we have used hyperview to view the contour plot animation.
Thus, all the points mentioned in the objective are successfully carried out using Altair Hypermesh, Radioss and Hyperview software.
