Create 3D mesh using Hypermesh
Objective - To create 3D mesh for the models provided in the challenge according to the parameters mentioned.
3D Meshing: Tet Collapse : 0.15
- Create Tetra for Housing model
Elements Sizes: Min - 2mm, Target - 5mm, Max - 7mm
- For the give two model
Create 3D mesh with 6mm
Procedure -
Housing - Create Tetra for Housing model
Elements Sizes: Min - 2mm, Target - 5mm, Max - 7mm
- Open Hypermesh and import the .stp file and open it.
- We have housing model which contains two components cover and hub.
- Now hide the hub and make cover as a current component.
- Then clean up geometry using quick edit and other option in geometry panel.
- Now go to 2D panel and click on automesh and mesh with the criteria of target element size of 5mm with trias and automesh the component.
- After that check for the quality index with element of min size 2mm and max size 7mm.
- Now for tetramesh go to 3D panel and click on the tetramesh and select elements and click on mesh.
- After that check for the tet collapse. For this first click on the tool panel and click on check elements and select 3D and check for the tet collapse.
- If there any tet collapse rectify them using different option in 3D panel.
- For checking if tertamesh is created or not, click on the mask option mask some elements and check for the tetra mesh. Below a pic of tetramesh created on cover.
- Now make hub as a current component and hide cover.
- Then delete the solid part.
Below a pic of tetramesh created on hub.
Result - Created a 3D mesh for housing for given quality criteria of target element size of 5mm and min of 2mm and max of 7mm and tet collapse of 0.15
- Create 3D mesh for given two models with element size of 6mm and tet collapse of 0.15
- Crank Housing
- Chassis assembly
Crank Housing -
- Open .hm file in Hypermesh i.e. crank housing.
- Clean up geometry using quick edit and other option in geometry panel.
- Now go to 2D panel and click on automesh and mesh with the criteria of target element size of 6mm with trias and automesh the component.
- Check for the 2D mesh quality.
Result - Created a 3D mesh for crank housing for given quality criteria of element size of 6mm and tet collapse of 0.15
Chassis assembly -
- Open .hm file in Hypermesh i.e. chassis assembly.
- When model is load there is intersection, first we have to rectify that intersection using translate option in the tool panel.
Part 1 - Hub
- Make the hub component as current component and hide other component.
- Clean up the geometry using quick edit and defature option in geometry panel.
- For the hub component, the splines and the teeth and fillets with a radius of less than 15 are removed. So, that mesh can be generated properly.
- Cleaned hub geometry.
- Now go to 2D panel and click on automesh and mesh with the criteria of target element size of 6mm with trias and automesh the component.
Below a pic of tetramesh created on chassis hub.
Part 2 - Other component
- Make arm part of other component as current component.
- Then, for this and other remaining component we use the different option for tetramesh.
- Go to view click on browsers then hypermesh and then open utility.
- Then a utility window open click on Geom/mesh and then Quick TetraMesh. A new window open named as quick tetra.
- In Quick Tetra select component, and element size of 6mm and elements as tria. Click on mesh.
- 3D tetramesh created
- After that check for the tet collapse. For this first click on the tool panel and click on check elements and select 3D and check for the tet collapse.
- Similarly done same for other two components and create tetramesh for them too and check for the tet collapse.
- As we see in chassis assembly model, it is identically the same on both sides, first complete the tetramesh on left side and then reflect the whole on the right side.
- For reflect click on tool and click on the reflect tab and reflect the left to the right side.
- For checking if tertamesh is created or not, click on the mask option mask some elements and check for the tetra mesh.
Result - Created a 3D mesh for crank housing for given quality criteria of element size of 6mm and tet collapse of 0.15.
Conclusion -
In the challenge learnt about the tetramesh or 3D mesh and check the tet collapse.
- For housing model, 3D mesh is created with target element size 5mm with min 2mm and max 7mm.
- For other two model, crank housing and chassis assembly 3D mesh created with element size of 6mm.
- Tet collapse of 0.15 is used for all models.
