Comparison of bending in beams
Objective:
The aim of this project is to bending analysis of three types of beams given and compare the results of stress, displacement and strain for all the three cases and suggest the best out of the three.
Procedure :
2D model of the beams:
1.Length of the above beams is 400mm.
2.Alloy steel used for this analysis.
3.Linear static analysis done for the beams.
4.5mm mesh used.
5.Load applied for all the beams is 1500N on smaller face of beam(45mm for case1 & case3,40mm for case2).
Results :
Case 1: Rectangular Beam
Maximum von misses stress : 9578000 N/m^2
Factor of safety : 64.7734
Yield strength of material : 620400000 N/m^2
Maximum displacement : 0.03103mm
Case 2: I-section beam
Maximum von misses stress : 24330000 N/m^2
Factor of safety : 25.4599
Yield strength of material : 620400000 N/m^2
Maximum displacement : 0.08786mm
Case 3: C-Section Beam
Maximum von misses stress : 46540000 N/m^2
Factor of safety : 13.33
Yield strength of material : 620400000 N/m^2
Maximum displacement : 0.3818mm
Conclusion :
All the beams are safe under the given load condition,
1.Rectangular beam consumes more mass and gives high factor of safety and displacement is also less.
2.I-beam consumes less mass compared with other two and gives a good factor of safety.
3.C-channel consumes mass more than I-beam,factor of safety is also less and produces more displacement.
So from this analysis we can conclude I-section beam is best one.
