Comparing the simulation results of the base setup and improved shell element properties
Objective: To compare the simulation results of the base setup and improved shell element properties.
Case Set up and Execution:
Case-1: Open Hypermesh>Import Solver Desk, Select Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.rad
- Now go to View>Browsers>Hypermesh and check Solvers
- Search for engine keywords from the tree in solver and click on the RUN and change the value of Tstop to 55 ms.
- You can also edit the value by opening the Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0001.rad file in Notepad from 60 ms to 55 ms.
- Now select RADIOSS from applications tab and select Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.rad as input file and click on RUN.
- Now we will get 25-60 animation files.
- Now open Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0001.out file to check mass and energy errors are less than 2% and15% respectively.
- Now open Hyperview and select Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment.h3d file.
- Select Contour Von mises and click apply.
- Now select multi window and open Hypergraph 2D and plot graphs in different windows and save the files as template.
Case-2:
- Now change properties of the file as per recommended.
- Now select RADIOSS from applications tab and select new Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0000.rad as input file and click on RUN.
- Now we will get 25-60 animation files.
- Now open new Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment_0001.out file to check mass and energy errors are less than 2% and15% respectively.
- Now open Hyperview and select new Element_Formulation-Shell-3_assignment.h3d file.
- Select Contour Von mises and click apply.
- Now select multi window and open Hypergraph 2D and plot graphs in different windows and save the files as template.
Comparison:
- The energy error in Case-1 is -10.3% which is more than Case-2 which is -0.1% and mass error is same for both the cases.
- In the Von mises contour plot, we can observe that the node at which maximum von mises stress occurs has changed from 706 in case-1 to 708 in case-2.
- The internal energy and total energy is more linear in case-1.
- The Kinetic energy is not zero because of energy error but if may become zero if the run time is more than 55ms.
- The Hourglass energy is more in case-1 as compared to case-2.
Results and Conclusion:
- To get effective results we have changed the property values as recommended.
- Compared base results with improved shell element property results.
- Plotted different graphs in Hypergraph 2D for comparison.
