Cleanup Geometrical Errors And Mid_Surface Extracting For Meshing
AIM : clean up the geometry of the following component of the given models and extract midsurface for meshing the model in HYPERMESH.
OBJECTIVE :
- import the geometry of the given model file.
- clean up the geometry of the following models given.
- extract the midsurface of the models for the meshing.
PROCEDURE :
- first task is to clean up the geometry of the following model : Housing.
- the given file of the model is in the form of STEP file which we has to import in the hypermesh by selecting the tool "import geometry".
- in "import geometry" we have to select the following model file and the format of the model file which has to import and proceed for the import.
- if the model is shown in "wireframe mode" we have to change the view to shaded by selecting "shaded geometry" view.
- check the model for if there is any solid surface is present of the component, because we are working for the 2d mesh modeling for that we avoid the 3d solid surfaces.
- delete the solid surfaces if there is any and then proceed for the geometry cleanup, for deleting the solid surface we have to select the delete tool and change the option to "solid" in which it only select the solid surface if available and delete.
- in this model we dont have any solid surface so we proceed for the geometry cleanup in the model.
- in the below images you can see the procedure of the importing model and geometry cleanup.
- here in the below image we have geometry error that is missing of the surface part, for that we used here "ruled" tool from "surfaces". which helps to create the surface between lines.
- to use this option we have to select the lines in which between we want the surface to be formed.
- there is an another option is also available for creating surface for surface error like this that is "filler" from "surfaces".the tool helps to fill the surface error.
- after creating the surface from ruled we have single con or say "red" con which indicate the surface is not fixed properly (i.e due to some gap or irregular minor gap formed between surfaces while creating).
- to fix this we have used here the tool "auto cleanup" for attaching the surface and we have another option in "quick edit" that is "toggle".
- as we discussed about the "filler tool" earlier we used here for the filling geometry surface error.
- NOTE : to use this option there is some limitation like the geometry has to be uniform where the surface has to be filled and it should be closed geometry.
- here you can see the final "model" which is now cleaned up.
- for the second model which is a plastic component.we have to import the model and then do the geometry clean up and then extract the mid surface for meshing.
- first we have to import the model which is in "step" format.then change the mode from "wireframe" to "shaded".
- then check for the solid component if we have then we have to delete the solid part of the component.
- after that we proceed for the geometry cleanup of the main (or) say parent component.
- then we extract the midsurface of the following model "plastic component" and then we do geometry cleanup for that too if there is any geometrical errors occured during the midsurface extraction.
- in the below images you can see the followign process of the model cleanup and then extraction of the midsurface.
- as you can see after importing the model file of the plastic component we found some geometry errors.
- for the below image error we use "fiiler" tool because we have closed geometry error.
- we select the "red" con and the software do its calculation on the base of solver and create the surface which fills the error.
- in the below images you can see the procedure of using the tool in various parts.
- here in the below images we are facing the error of "surface overlapping". which makes irregular geometry.
- to deal with it we use here "auto cleanup" tool which helps to colaborate the surfaces perfectly with each other by sharing the same edge con.
- here in the below image we use trim option on surface to divide it into two parts.
- for that we use "trim with lines" in that we give the surface and the line which divide the surface into two parts.
- here "filler" tool is used again for filling the missing surface of the following geometry.
- here in the below options you can see the following procedure of the using "ruled" tool from "surfaces".
- in which we select the lines between which we need to create the surface, it is a very handy tool which helps to fix surface errors.
- in the below image we select the two lines and then click "create" which formed the surface to cover the missing surface of the geometry.
- similarly we cover the whole missing surface as you see in the above image.
- to cover this error also we used the same "ruled" tool from surfaces.
- here in the below image we have the surface error. for this we use "delete" option and then created a new surface by using "ruled" tool.
- it is a leghty process but we do here for the creating surface properly at the edge.
- here in the below image we are facing surface glitching due to some overlaping of the surfaces and cross connecting of the edge cons.
- to overcome this error we "delete" the upper part of the surface and again created the surface by using "ruled" tool.
- after the geometry major cleanups we can now proceed for the extracction of "mid surface" from geometry.
- for that we just go for "auto cleanup" if there is any small errors, has to be cleaned.
- after the geometry cleanup, we go for the "auto mid surface " extraction from the geometry.
- for that we use "auto mid surface" from "mid surfaces". which helps to extract mid surface.
- NOTE : in auto mid surface ,if there is any "complex geometry" areas are there then pogram sometimes unable to pretend the mid surface taking and in result it gives the glitch or overlaped surface which we have to correct manually.
- in the below images you can see the following procedure of the auto mid surface extraction and then geometry cleanup of mid surface manually.
- after mid surface extraction here we given a seperate component for the mid surface which helps us to do work individually on the mid surface component without disturbing the main (or) say parent geometry model.
- we also provide material to the mid surface which helps while in analysis the component.
- NOTE : for this model right now as per the task given we dont need the material to be assigned.
- from the following table in the below image we put the values of the material property.
- we are considering here the plastic component as (PC/ABS).
- as we discussed earlier there are some critical areas where software unable to calculated the mid surface extraction properly. here we do manual mid surface extrcation by using the tool "offset" from "surface edit" menu.
- for manual offset of the surface we need to calculate the distance between the outer part and the inner part of the component of which you need to extract the midsurface.
- select the surface inner (or) outer part of component provide the middle distance at which point you want the surface to be offset and then provide vector direction along axis which the offset surface has to appear.
- click on "offset" finally to offset the surface.
- NOTE : it is helpfull if you first duplicate the surface first which you want to get offset , which helps you to not get your parrent geometry get disturbed.
- as you can see we finally able to cover the mid surface properly without fail.
- in the below image the final midsurface component is present after cleanup geometry errors and the parent geometry is also seen in transperacy mode to check the following midsurface.
RESULT : as a result we achieve the "midsurface" of the following component after cleaning up the geometry and the files related to the following models are share by the link below to verify. as per the given task we clean up the geometrical errors of the followiing components 1)housing (2) plastic component and also done the midsurface of the plastic component for the meshing purpose.
