Cleaning of the given parts and to create a 5mm 2D mesh at its midsurface

AIM - Cleaning of the given parts and to create a 5mm 2D mesh at its midsurface.

STEPS -

  1. Open the parts in hypermesh.
  2. Observe the geometry by zooming in and rotating.
  3. Select the geometry mode from auto to mixed to find the free and supporting edges marked in red and yellow
  4. Once the edges are distinguished all the necessary actions are to be done to remove/add surface, toggle edges etc.
  5. Remove all the pinholes and fillets using the defeature function
  6. once the geometry has been cleaned create a midsurface by using the midsurface feature in geometry panel
  7. start working on midsurface by hiding all the surfaces.
  8. Add or remove lines or nodes to create a proper mesh
  9. select the 2D panel and click on automesh, mesh all the surfaces one by one to create a quadrilateral element mesh
  10. element size should be kept at 5mm with minimum and maximum element sizes 3.5 and 7 respectively uncheck the size, skew function in mesh style click on set all for converting triangular meshes into quadrilateral mesh
  11. select F3 button to combine nodes and f6 to combine elements
  12. Remesh the meshes incase the meshes are not quads.
  13. Once the whole part is meshed create a mesh quality check by clicking the quality index function in 2D pannel
  14. Maximum element size, warpage , skew, aspect ratio, etc. are checked and corrected
  15. The thickness is add in property card = 1mm

RESULTS- Hence all the parts have been meshed with element size of 5mm with the maxmimum and minimum element sizes of 3.5 and 7 mm respectively.
