CONNECTIONS REPRESENTATION OF FRAME ASSEMBLY USING HYPERMESH

OBJECTIVES :

To provide specified connections representation for the given Frame assembly to attach parts after meshing.

CONNECTIONS DATA :

1. Right_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1:- Seam-Quad (angled+capped+L)

2. Left_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1:- Quad elements

3. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Right_Rail_1:- Spot weld with 3 Layers and 5 mm Diameter

4. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Left_Rail_1:- Hexa (Adhesive)

5. Rear_truss_2 & Right_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector

6. Rear_truss_2 & Left_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector

7. Right_Rail_1 & Right_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Rigid Elements

8. Left_Rail_1 & Left_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Spring Elements

9. Rest all the component left Join them with suitable connectors.

PROCEDURE :

A. MESHING :

1. Import the Frame_Assembly.hm file to hypermesh.

2. 2D > Automesh the entire component for target element size 5mm.

FIG 1 : MESHED FRAME ASSEMBLY

3. Eliminate trias using Quality Index > Drag tria element command.

4. 2D > Smooth the reworked mesh until final displacement iteration equals 0.0000.

5. Set Steel as material with appropriate values.

6. Set properties for each components.

B. CONNECTIONS :

1. Hide all components and elements except right rail 2 and front truss 1 elements.

2. 2D > Connectors > Seam Weld command is used.

  • Select the type Seam-Quad(angled+capped+L).
  • Create a node path for the seam weld on one of the components.
  • Select the 2 components to connect after entering tolerance value.
  • Give appropriate weld angle, cap angle and run off angle values.
  • Click Create. Remesh the area.

3. Show Left Rail 2 and Front truss 2 components.

4. 2D > Connectors > Seam > type as Quad.

  • Select the list on nodes to connect.
  • Select components for connections.
  • Set the spacing and componets to connect.
  • Select the property and create.

5. Show the Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Right_Rail_1.

6. 2D > Connectors > Spot > type as weld.

  • Select the components and change to 3 layers
  • Set diameter as 5mm.

7. Show Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Left_Rail_1 components.

8. 2D > Connectors > Seam > type as Hexa(adhesive)

  • Select the nodes to create Hexa adhesives.
  • Select the 3 components and set tolerance as 50mm.
  • Set spacing , strips and coats , width.

9. Show Rear_truss_2 & Right_Rail_2 and hide remaining.

10. 2D > Connectors > Bolt command is used to create bolt connections.

  • Select the nodes and components to connect.
  • Set bolt property and tolerance values.
  • Set bolt type as bolt(general) , create hole if none and select create.

11. Repeat the Bolt connection procedure for Rear_truss_2 & Left_Rail_2.

12. To Spot weld with rigids on Right_Rail_1 & Right_Rail_2, 2D > Connectors > Spot command is used.

  • Select the node list and components to connect.
  • Set type as rigids.
  • Change to 2 layers and dia 5mm and click create.

13. To Spot weld with spring elements Left_Rail_1 & Left_Rail_2 previous procedure is followed with change in type as spring.
