Batch meshing the Model

AIM : Batch-meshing on the following components with the given criteria provided and assign the non-linear material property Steel to them.

OBJECTIVE :

  • import the geometry file (1) provided.
  • delete the solid surfaces if present any and cleanup the geometrical errors.
  • create the parameter and criteria file as per the given requirement data and save it.
  • batch-mesh the components and clean the elements quality error if any.
  • save the file and import the file(2) provided.
  • delete the solid surfaces ,if any cleanup the geometrical errors.
  • batch-mesh the components and cleanup the elements quality issues.
  • save the file.

PROCEDURE :

BRIEF INTRO : Batch-Meshing is a complete fully automated meshing process , where in all the three processes of pre-processing will be complete in one step.

it is mostly preffered for the sheet metal components, when the engineer (or) user have the time limit (less time scheduled for work or urgent requirement)and ok with the sufficient quality possible at that time duration.

the processes include in Batch-Meshing are :

1) Mid-Surface extraction (contains geometry cleanup)

2) Meshing

3) Element Cleanup

4) Post Meshing

  • now for the given task for this challenge, we have to do the Batch-Mesh to the two model files provided. 1) hood and (2) fender.

MODEL (1) HOOD :

  • first of all we have to import the geometry file is provided to us for the Batch-Meshing the components.
  • to import the geometry file, we have to go to the import option in which we have select the file type which is \"step\" for this file and then browse the location of the file and then import.
  • after importing the geometry file , we have to check for the solid surfaces and delete it ,if present any.
  • after deleting the solid surfaces, we proceed for the Batch-Meshing.
  • for that , we need to create the \"parameter file\" and the \"criteria file\" as per the given requirement data provided to us.
  • to do that we need to go to the top menu bar in that \"preferences\" > \"parameter file setting\" (or) \" criteria file setting\" .
  • save the created files of parameter and criteria as per the given requirement data.
  • now we proceed for the Batch-meshing the components individually.
  • for that we have to go to the option 2D > automesh > batchmesh/qi optimize.
  • In this tool option,we provide the following data like selecting the surface , load the parameter file and load the criteria file.
  • NOTE : load the parameter and criteria file which we are created as per our own requirements, if there is not any then select the defaults as per the basic requirement match.
  • after completion of the Batch-mesh process , we have to check for the mesh elements fails for the quality criteria.
  • correct the mesh quality failed elements, if present any.
  • after that, similarly follow the procedure for the rest of teh components.
  • in the below images you can see the following procedure we followed for the batch-meshing.

NOTE : for the quality and measurement check of Mid-surface extraction we have created the duplicates of the parent components geometry individually and assign cards.

  • after the Batch-Meshing of all the components , now we have to create and assign non-linear material property Steel to them.
  • first of all we have to change the user from \"optistruct\" to \"radioss\". then we create the material card.
  • for that , we go to medel window and right click mouse.
  • through options we select the \"materials\", in that a sub window opens.
  • in that window, we change the card image to \"M2_PLAS_JHONS_ZERIL\" and put the values of the material steel properties.
  • in the below image you can see the properties of steel material.
  • similarly we created the properties card individually for each and every components.the thickness is provided in the properties card is based on the parent geometry of the component individually.
  • after completion of crating materials and the properties card , we have to assign them to the components.
  • for that, we select the component in components window and right click on that , select the assign option.
  • a new tab opens, in which we have to select the material and properties file, which we want to assign for that component and then apply
  • in the below images you can see the followed procedure.

  • after assigning the material and properties to the components individually, we have to check for the components are assigned correctly or not.
  • for that we change the \"element color mode\" from \"by comp\" to \"by mat\" for materials.
  • by this you can observe the elements shows the color assigned by the material.
  • to check for the properties, we change the mode of \"element color mode\" to \"by prop\".
  • now we are able to see the difference by color, as assigned to different properties assigned to the elements of different components.
  • in the below images you can see the following procedure of checking the material and properties assigned to the different components.

MODEL 2 (FENDER) :

we save the model (1) and import the geometry file of model(2) provided and followed the same procedure as we followed for the earlier model components.

NOTE :

as you can see in the above images we are having the Batch-meshed components which are giving good results within less time consumption, but we have the issues of mesh capturing the critical area perfectly and also mesh flow is distorted.

on the other hand Manual meshing on the other hand is quite time-consuming but far more accurate and easy to maintain the mesh flow , but as we know it is time consuming and need good experience to deal.

so, use the Batch-Mesh option only when the user (or) engineer has the less time limit for the job and ok with the sufficient quality which is required in that time.

RESULT :

the task given in the challenge of Batch-meshing the components is completed as per the given requirements and also shared the files through the link for the furtre references and procedure.
