BMW M6
AIM : advanced CFD meshing of the BMW M6 model using ANSA.
OBJECTIVE :
- load the given BMW M6 model file in ansa and set the view in pid with shadow mode.
- divide the body of the model in half and clean the geometry errors you are seeing (red cons).
- set differents parts and different PIDS for the whole model of BMW M6 and compress the file.
- run geometry check and clean the errors shown in that.
- set length , mesh parameters and CFD quality criteria.
- mesh the model and run surface mesh check.
- clean the errors shown in the surface mesh check.
- run symmetry process(from transform tool menu) for makeup other half of the body and the other parts which are need to be replaced with good one.
- set up the wind tunnel for the BMW M6 model as per the required geometry and set pids for that.
- mesh the entire model and tunnel finally for the process.
PROCESS AND EXPLAINATION :
- load the given file in the ansa and the \'BMW M6\' model will shown up in the wireframe mode.
- set the view in PID mode along with the shadow mode.
- we changed the length parameters for the better view of the model.
- we cut the entire body of the model into half and clean up the topological errors in the half part of the model.
- here we work on the red cons and create new surafeces if required and set it in the same pid of the body.
- here we use \'intersect\' tool from hot points to create a hot point link between the two perpendicular cons.
- set up the option list of the intersect tool and create required surface from new intersection hot point.
- we use here \'extrude\' tool for the extension of the surface using a particular con for the direction and the point upto which it has to extrude.
- we set space for the exhaust without intersecting with the body of the model.
- after the clean up of the errors in the hald body of the model. we set up the different individual parts for the whole model.
- we divide the model into parts and set different PIDS for each of the parts seperately.
- we run the geometry check for the half body of the BMW M6 model and clean up the errors shown in the result.
- we leave the single con errors because its required for the formation of the other half of the model by using \'symmetry\' from \'transform\' tool menu.
- as we are now good to go for the meshing process, so we proceed for the setting up the length parameters.
- all the parts are set up with the different length parameters as per the requirement.
- the required length parameters for the parts to be given are : 1) body = 3mm , (2) lights = 4mm , (3) grilles = 1mm , (4) tires and rims = 2mm , (5) orvm(optical rear view mirror) = 2mm , (6) windows = 2mm , (7) exhaust = 3mm , (8) logos = 1mm
- set up mesh parameters for the meshing and proceed for the mesh of the following model.
- run the \'mesh surface check\' by setting up the parameters for ecah of the check to be done in the surface mesh check.
- we set the parameters of the following check mesh sharp edges , penetration proximities and the mesh quality.
- clean the errors shown in the result and make the model mesh again without errors
- here we use the tool \'reconstruct\' from shell mesh for re-creating the surface of particular \'macro area\' and also set up the parameters in the option list .
- as of now we are clear with the errors of the \'surface mesh checks\' .
- we are now proceeding for the \'symmetry\' operation for the makeup rest half of the body.
- in \'transform\' tool we select \'copy\' option because we want a copy of half of the body on the other side of the centre part.
- then we select the \'entities\' which we want a copy of that and select the option \'symmetry\' from copy entities.
- now in symmetry we have to select the \'nodes\' for the preference to copy the mode with plane and axis.
- click ok and the finish to create the other half of the body.
- we use same \'symmetry\' procedure for the creation of exact copy of the front left wheel as the front right wheel.
- we also change the design on the tire as per the other wheels.
- we select \'copy\' from \'transform\' tool and then use \'translate\' instead of \'symmetry\'.
- select the particular part which have to move and provide the \'nodes\' from which to which the model has to move.
- after that finish the process and the product will appear.
- now we measure the length of the following model(which is 1308) and make a wind tunnel according to the requirement.
- the requirements for the wind tunnel is (1) front side of the wind tunnel should be start from the distance 4* times of the car size which is 5232mm.
(2) rear side of the wind tunnel should be start from the distance 6* times of the car size which is 7848mm.
(3) top side of the wind tunnel should be start from the distance 3* times of the car size which is 3924mm.
(4) bottom side of the wind tunnel should be start from the distance near to ending of wheel of the car which is 76mm we are given.
(5) left and the right sides of the wind tunnel should be start from the distance 1* times from centre palne of the car size which is 1308mm. - after creating the wind tunnel we mesh the wind tunnel also as per the given geometry.
- the given geometry for the mesh of wind tunnel are : (1) for bottom 20 mm , (2) for top 100mm , (3) for the sides it is 50mm.
RESULT :
the given file BMW M6 was meshed succesfully after removing all the topological errors and the meshing errors. the wind tunnel for the model is also created and meshed.
finally the complete model meshed images are shown below.
