BATCH MESHING HOOD AND FENDER IN HYPERMESH

OBJECTIVES :

To perform Batch mesh on Hood and Fender components under specified quality criteria and assign non-linear material property Steel to them.

QUALITY CRITERIA :

S.N Quality Criteria Value
1 Aspect Ratio 5
2 Skewness 45
3 Warping 15
4 Taper 0.5
5 Min. Length 2mm
6 Max. Length 8mm
7 Min angle Quad 45
8 Max angle Quad 135
9 Min angle Tria 20
10 Max angle Tria 120
10 Tria % 10

Target Element Length = 5mm

PROCEDURE :

1. HOOD ASSEMBLY

A. ORGANIZING :

1. Import the Hood.stp file to hypermesh under RADIOSS user profile.

2. Delete all the solids displayed.

FIG 1 : IMPORTED HOOD ASSEMBLY

3. Create Duplicate components for each components of hood and duplicate their surfaces using Tools > Organize command so that we can compare the midsurface generated with parent component after Batch meshing.

B. BATCH MESHING :

1. Preferences > Mesh Parameters is used to set desired target element length and other clean up options. Save file.

2. Preferences > Quality Criteria is used to set fail values of elements. Save file.

3. 2D > Automesh > Batchmesh and set parameters file and criteria file while keeping connectivity and mesh.

4. Repeat the procedure for all components of hood.

5. The mesh will be generated within minutes.

6. Midsurface and Quality Criteria is maintained exceptional.

C. ASSIGNING PROPERTY

1. Create a material card Steel and set card image as M2_PLAS_JOHNS_ZERIL for non-linear material property.

2. Set appropriate values in Material and Property card.

3. Right click mouse assign the property and material to the component.

DEMERITS:

1. Complex surfaces like inner panel of hood could not expect proper mesh flow.

2. Trias are large in number and need to rework a lot.

2. FENDER

A. ORGANIZING :

1. Import the Fender.igs.

FIG 1 : IMPORTED FENDER GEOMETRY

2. Delete the solids displayed.

3. Create an new component and move the surfaces displayed using TOOLS > ORGANIZE after duplicating.

4. Holes and plain areas are captured properly.

5. Midsurface is captured properly.

C. ASSIGNING PROPERTIES :

1. Create a material card Steel and set card image as M2_PLAS_JOHNS_ZERIL for non-linear material property.

2. Set appropriate values in Material and Property card.

FIG 4 : ASSIGNING PROPERTY AND MATERIAL CARD

3. Assign Property and material to the component.

DEMERITS:

1. Complex surfaces like ribs of fender could not expect proper mesh flow.

2. Trias are large in number and need to rework a lot.

3. Quality of elements failed at complex surfaces like hinges, ribs.
