Assignment 1 Understanding GT Power

Assignment 1: Understanding GT Power

1. Introduction:-

GT Suite is multiphysics CAE system simulation software. The foundation of GT suite is a versatile multi-physics plateform for constructing models of general systems based on many underlying fundamental libraries:

  1. Flow library (Any fluid, liquid, gas or mixture)
  2. Acoustics library (Both Non-linear and linear)
  3. Thermal library (All types of Heat transfer)
  4. Mechanical library (Kinematics,multi-body dynamics, frequecy domain)
  5. Electric and Electromanetic library (circuits, electromechanical devices)
  6. Chemistry library (Chemical kinetics)
  7. Controls library (signal processing, Built-in 3D CFD)
  8. 3D FE (Thermal and structural)

There are three branches in which all these falls under namely:

  • Template provides all the unfilled attributes required by models.
  • Objects are made from templates which contains all the required parts.
  • Parts are the ones which are dropped onto the map.

1.1 Modules:-

Some of the modules used in modelling engines are mentioned as follows:

Flow:-

There are several components based on which the flow propagates. This medium helps in delivering the required matter to the mechanical components. The necessary parameters are tuned based on the medium we emphasise.

Mechanical:-

In this module we have all the components for transmission. The parameters size, shape and the required mechanisms are altered for simulating.

Thermal:-

Essential components for heat transfer are needed to be imparted for running our system effectively and efficiently.

Electromagnetic:-

Electric and magnetic components are needed for transmitting and receiving signals, with need for charging and storing energy through essential devices are modelled here.

Control:-

Sensors and detectors are used to measure the output performance of the product being controlled, these measurements are used to provide corrective feedback to help and achieve desired performance.

1.2 Time control flag:-

  • As the name implies it is used for denoting the simulation duration and also the variables for controlling the time.
  • The events can either be periodic (requires tracking based on varying angles) or continuous (no tracking).
  • The simulation time can be expressed either in cycles or in seconds based on our needs.

1.3 Time step and solution control:-

  • The numerical parameters for the explict and implicit solver can be defined in this process.

1.4 Integrator/solver type:-

  • This is used in time marching of ODE\'s which is present in library.

2.1 Run setup:-

2.2 Advanced setup:-

2.3 Plot setup:-

2.4 Output setup:-

3.1 Pressure drop across CAC:-

3.2 Total heat transfer:-

Temperature drop T2-T1=361-350=11

Thermal conductivity of steel pipes =16 W/m-K

Total heat transfer area = 16 m^2

The total heat transfer value for the CAC is 121.44 W.
