3D Meshing of Housing, Arm Bracket and edit the Engine file
Objective: To create 3D meshing for the given models and solve the following questions:
Case Set up and Execution:
1. Material and its properties as given in FIRST_RUN_0000.rad file:-
Material:Steel
Density:0.0078`g/(mm²)`
Young's Modulus:210000`g/ ((ms)²(mm)²)`
Speed of Sound `C = sqrt (E/rho)`
= `sqrt (21000/0.0078)`
= 5188.745 m/s or mm/ms
2. Length of the rail - 1000mm.
Time takes for a shock wave to travel from
one end of the rail to the other:`delta t=l/c`
=1000/5188.745
=0.1927 ms
3. Time for sound to travel length of rail=0.1927 ms
4. Edited the engine file in the following way, so that the stress wave can be monitored, moving from one end of the rail to the other during impact -this will require a termination time equal to the time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail i.e 0.192ms
- Import the Radioss flle FIRST_RUN_0000.rad
- Check on solver browser from View tab
- Search for engine keywords from the tree in solver and click on the RUN and change the value of Tstop to 0.192.
5. Number of animation file = runtime/ frequency
So frequency f = runtime/Number of animation file
`f=0.1927/20`
=0.009635
To set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animation steps(/ANIM/DT)
the following steps are followed:
- Import the Radioss flle FIRST_RUN_0000.rad
- Check on solver browser from View tab
- Search for engine keywords from the tree in solver and click on ANIM and then on ANIM/DT and edit Tfreq value to 0.009635 .
Now Select RADIOSS from application tab, change run number to 4 and click on RADIOSS. This will give us 20 animation files.
Now open hyperview and open .h3d file to view all 20 animation files.
Now click on contour to see the animation of displacement of shock wave.
6. Printout cycle frequency is -10. These results can be seen in FIRST_RUN_0001.rad file. It terminates after every 10 cycles and check for errors.
7. 2D and 3D Meshing:
Hub and Cover:
- Open the model in hypermesh
- Hide the cover
- Make the hub as current component.
- As it is already 2D meshed, go to 3D Mesh and select TETRA MESH and give parameters and tet collapse as 0.15.
- Now select all 2D elements and click mesh.
- Now hide the hub and make cover as current component and perform the 3D TETRAMESH with same properties as of hub.
Arm Cover:
- Open the model in hypermesh.
- Hide all parts except base.
- Use 2-D mesh on the top surface using only quad elementswith element size as 10 then use element offset.
- Isolate arm and use spin to mesh the component.
- Now isolate the arm straight.
- First create a face on the arm curve and then create 2D mesh on the face of the arm straight and hen use linear solid to mesh.
- For Boss, we use solid map to mesh.
Conclusion:
- Using the .rad file, we have calculated the values by editing the engine's run and animation files.
- Using the files obtained we have Performed contour plot animation in Hyperview.
- Performed 2D and 3D mesh for the given models with the given mesh size parameters and tet collapse is checked.
