Project

3D MESHING USING HYPERMESH

OBJECTIVES :

To perform a Volume tetramesh for the given components under specified quality criteria.

QUALITY CRITERIA :

Elements sizes: Min- 2mm, Target- 5mm,Max- 7mm Tet collapse: 0.15

PROCEDURE :

1. HOUSING COMPONENT :

A. Geometry cleanup

  • Import the Housing.stp file to hypermesh.

FIG 1 : HOUSING GEOMETRY

  • Check for free edges and edit them for both housing and hub.

B. Meshing

  • 2D > automesh the entire component hub and housing seperately with target element size as 5mm with respectively changing current component.

FIG 2 : MESHING WITH TRIAS

  • 3D > Tetramesh , set the tetramesh parameters like min length as 2mm, max length as 7mm, Tet collapse as 0.15.
  • Volume mesh using Tetra mesh radio button.

FIG 3 : VOLUME MESHED

  • Tools > Check elements the Component for 3D > Tetcollapse. Save failed elements and mask.
  • Unmask adjacent elements and Tetra remesh the elements.

2. CRANK HOUSINNG :

A.Geometry Cleanup :

  • Import the TETRAMESH_PM.hm file to hypermesh.
  • Clean up the geometry using toggle edges command.

FIG 1 : GEOMETRY CLEAN UP

B. MESHING

  • 3D > tetramesh > Volume tetra the elements with 6mm target length and min length as 2mm.
  • Set Tetramesh mesh parameters tet collapse as 0.15.
  • Tools > Check elements the Component for 3D > Tetcollapse. Save failed elements and mask.
  • Unmask adjacent elements and Tetra remesh the elements.

3. CHASSIS ASSEMBLY

A. GEOMETRY CLEANUP:

  • Import the chassis_Assembly file to Hypermesh.

FIG 1 : CHASSIS ASSEMBLY GEOMETRY

  • Cleanup the surfaces of geartooth that would be unnecessary for tetramesh and fill it with plain surface using surface edit commands.

B. MESHING

  • 3D > Volume tetra the elements after setting the tetramesh parameters for min length 2mm, max length 7mm and target size 6mm and tet collapse as 0.15.

FIG 2 : TETRAMESHED COMPONENTS

  • Tools > Check elements is used for checking tet collapse and tetra remesh is carried out with failed elements.

FIG 3 : UNSTRUCTURED COMPONENTS FORMED

  • Tools > Reflect is used to reflect the duplicated elements about y-axis.

FIG 4 : REFLECTED CHASSIS ASSEMBLT COMPONENTS

NOTE : The reflected elements are deleted while saving to keep the node count below 100000 to save the file in student\'s version.

CONCLUSION :

  1. The Geometry cleanup is carried out for all the components.
  2. Meshed with tria elements and volume mesh is carried out.
  3. Tet collpse errors are fixed.
