2D MESHING OF BACK DOOR

OBJECTIVE:

To mesh the back door according to the given quality criteria and thickness is assigned.

PROCEDURE:

MIDSURFACE EXTRACTION AND GEOMETRY CLEANUP:

The mid surface is taken for the geometry by using the auto mid surface option.

After the mid surface is generated, duplicate surfaces are deleted and the missing surfaces are created as in the original geometry.

Open edges in the geometry are shown in red lines, by checking the original geometry it is converted into green lines by toggling it with the other surfaces if needed by using the toggle option.

Unwanted edges of the surfaces are suppressed and combined into one surface.

Defeaturing is done to remove the details in the geometry to make the geometry simpler by using the defeature option and also it depends on the analysis to be performed.

The surface fillets, edge fillets, pinholes are defeatured where it is not important in the geometry.

MESHING:

The meshing approach is done uniformly with proper mesh flow by using 2D mesh option and also by reducing the trias in the mesh.

As the geometry is symmetry, the meshing is performed on one side of the geometry and the mesh is reflected to the other side of the geometry by using reflect command, this will save the meshing time.

Once the meshing is completed, the quality is checked by using the quality index option for the given quality values.

Target Element size - 5mm

S.N Quality Criteria Value
1 Aspect Ratio 5
2 Skewness 45
3 Warping 15
4 Taper 0.5
5 Min. Length 4mm
6 Max. Length 7mm
7 Min angle Quad 45
8 Max angle Quad 135
9 Min angle Tria 30
10 Max angle Tria 110
10 Tria % 15

By using the cleanup tools option the trias are dragged away from the concentrated areas, fillets, holes because trias will add more stiffness value which will affect our results.

And also by using the element optimize option the elements having the minimum and maximum length error is cleared.

Opposite trias are avoided by re-meshing and dragging the trias over each other to form a quad.

By using the smooth option the elements shape, size is corrected uniformly.

Then mesh is checked for equivalence by using the equivalence command and make sure that there are no open edges inside the mesh.

THICKNESS ASSIGN:

The component is checked for the varying thickness and moved to separate component as per the thickness.

Then the property is created as P1 shell and assigned to each component.

Finally, the thickness value is entered in the component and by using the 2D detailed representation command the assigned thickness is seen.

RESULT:

The given geometry is meshed as per the given quality criteria and the thickness is assigned.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

1.MID SURFACE EXTRACTION AND GEOMETRY CLEAN UP.

2. MESHING THE MIDSURFACE.

3.ELEMENT QUALITY CHECKING.

4.THICKNESS ASSIGNING.
