Top 10 Telecommunication Engineering Interview Questions and Answers

As a telecom engineer, you can earn around ₹30,000 per month as a fresher. Also, with time and experience, the pay package will increase.

The responses in your interview play a major role in deciding your designation. It is wise to prepare answers for a few telecom engineer interview questions. We have compiled a list of frequently asked telecom network engineer interview questions that can be used as a guide.

10 Frequently Asked Telecommunication Engineering Interview Questions and Answers in 2023

1) How well-versed are you in FCC rules governing how to use telecommunications systems?

FCC regulations limit the national ownership percentage of broadcast radio or television stations. To ensure a diversity of opinions in each market and meet the demands of each local market, it has also implemented cross-ownership restrictions that limit ownership of a newspaper and broadcast station in the same market. I have worked on projects where we had to adhere to the FCC's rules surrounding telecommunications networks, so I am incredibly familiar with them.

2) Do you prefer working alone or in a group when maintaining a system?

I like working by myself since I can concentrate better without interruptions. But if a system or network is having trouble, I'll ask my coworkers for assistance so we can all cooperate to fix it.

By doing this, I can learn more about their practices while they can learn more about mine.

3) Describe your experience developing or updating telecom systems using programming languages.

I've worked with C++ and Java, among other programming languages. In my previous position as a telecom engineer, I was entrusted with modernising an outdated system that could not accommodate fresh innovations.

I tweaked the system to make it capable of handling more complicated functions using these two languages. Because we didn't need to replace the complete system, this saved our business money.

4) What are the benefits and drawbacks of using copper wire for communications systems?

Compared to other forms of wire, copper wire offers many benefits. High-speed signal transmission makes it perfect for long-distance communication. Copper wire lasts longer than other wires since it doesn't rust quickly. However, because copper wire is more expensive than other wires, using it over short distances might not be economical.

5) What distinguishes a star topology from a bus topology in networks?

One central connecting point serves as the hub for the entire star topology. Because there is only one location to go to if something goes wrong with the network, management is made simple.

Every device connects to every other on the same line because there is no central connection point in a bus topology. This facilitates the addition of new devices to the network but also increases the number of devices impacted by network issues.

6) Our goal is to provide better customer service. Describe the method you would employ to do this.

I recommend reviewing the customer support system that is currently in use. I would then develop a new strategy in light of my analysis.

For instance, I could increase the number of customer service agents I recruit or train current staff to handle more calls. I would also look at the technology the business uses for customer support. Moreover, I would collaborate with IT to identify solutions if there were any technological problems.

7) How frequently do you need to conduct maintenance for telecom systems?

Depending on the size of the system, I maintain telecom systems at least once each month. I often begin by looking for any mistakes or alarms that may have happened over the previous month.

Next, I look for any damage or flaws in all hardware parts, including routers, switches, and cables, if there aren't any already.

Following this, I perform diagnostic checks to ensure that everything is operating as it should. Finally, I would restart the machine and check for any fresh alarms.

8) Explain latch-up in simple terms.

A parasitic thyristor, such as a parasitic silicon-controlled rectifier, or SCR, is unintentionally created within a circuit and, when activated or turned on, causes a large amount of current to flow through it continuously. This failure mechanism is known as latch-up.

The quantity of current flow generated by this process can be sufficient to cause electrical overstress (EOS), which can permanently destroy the device depending on the circuits involved.

9) Describe demodulation.

The process of demodulating an analogue transmission to restore its original baseband signal. The receiver system needs to convert a modulated signal with specified properties to baseband, hence demodulating is required.

10) Describe RF.

A frequency or rate of oscillation between about 3 Hz and 300 GHz is referred to as radio frequency (RF). This range matches the frequency of the electrical impulses generated by alternating currents to create and detect radio waves. RF typically refers to oscillations in electrical circuits or electromagnetic radiation because most of this range is above the maximum vibration rate that most mechanical systems can withstand.
