Projects Overview

Project 1

Highlights

A 20-30 hr project on designing Roadway Geometry using Bentley OpenRoads Designer.

Key Highlights:

  • Designing the mainline alignment.
  • Designing the intersecting street/crossing street alignments.
  • Creating the existing ground profiles for all of the above alignments.
  • Designing proposed profiles/ground for all of the above alignments.
  • Designing the parking lot peripheral alignment and retaining wall alignment.
  • Creating existing ground profiles for parking lot and retaining wall.
  • Designing the proposed profiles/ground for the parking lot and retaining wall.
  • Using the right feature definitions, names for all the horizontal and vertical alignments.
  • Tying in of crossing street profiles to the mainline profiles carrying the cross slope of the mainline.
  • Use the ROW file, Survey file as reference for the horizontal layout.
  • Export all the geometry designed above to XML.
  • Generate Geometry reports and save it to PDF.

Deliverables:

  • All .DGN, XML, PDF files related to the project.
  • The summary Excel spreadsheets linked to the .DGN files
  • Design assumptions in the excel sheet.

Project 2

Highlights

A 40-50 hr project on designing a 3.0 Mile Roadway using Bentley OpenRoads Designer.

Key Highlights:

  • Designing the roadway proposed layout viz. edge of pavement, curb returns, etc. of the entire stretch including the crossing streets.
  • Use right feature definitions for the proposed layout elements.
  • Develop a template(s) as required with the typical configuration given. (Make sure all the points, components, end conditions are having correct feature definitions, superelevation flags, etc.)
  • Develop the mainline corridor using above designed template(s).
  • Use point controls as necessary.
  • Develop the superelevation model using design standards. Apply the same to the corridor.
  • Revisit the crossing street alignments/tie in locations with mainline (designed in project 1, mini project) and review the tie-ins with respect to the corridor modelled with superelevation. Make necessry changes to the crossing street profiles, as required.
  • Consider the above changes and reprocess your mainline corridor.
  • Place civil cells at the intersections and clip with the corridors as required.
  • Create earthwork quantities and component quantities. Save the reports in PDF.
  • Generate plan and profile drawings for 1000' matchline/cutline at scale of 100:10 (H:V)
  • Generate double stacked plans (plan on top of plan) for roadway layout plans at scale of 100 (H). matchline at 1000'.
  • Generate proposed cross section drawings at an interval of 50' from start to end of the mainline covering the ROW.

Deliverables:

  • All .DGN files of the above. (proposed roadway layout, corridor, superelevation, all separate drawing sheets - all in different DGN files)
  • The summary Excel spreadsheets linked to the .DGN files
  • Any assumptions made in project 2.

Project 3

Highlights

A 10-20 hr project on designing roadway widening using Bentley OpenRoads Designer.

Key Highlights:

  • Use the same alignment designed in project 1.
  • Design the proposed roadway widening layout as per the conditions given.
  • Develop the template for roadway widening.
  • Develop the corridor and assign the above template.

Deliverables:

  • All .DGN files of the above.
  • The summary Excel spreadsheets linked to the .DGN files
  • Any assumptions made in project 3.
