CAE Master's at Skill-Lync: Overview and Success Stories

The jobs of individuals in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) are at the forefront of 21st-century core mechanical engineering. In simple terms, engineers working in CAE use computer software for tasks related to engineering analysis such as finite element analysis (FEA), multibody dynamics (MBD), durability, and optimization.

For example, CAE tools are used to run analytics on the robustness and performance of individual components and even assemblies.

CAE covers the end-to-end simulation and validation of products and tools to iteratively improve the optimization of systems. CAE systems are gradually becoming crucial towards the decision making of design teams in multiple sectors, including aviation, aerospace, shipbuilding, and automotive.

CAE Tools in the Automotive Industry

CAE tools are quite commonly used in the automotive industry. They provide many tangible benefits such as reduced product development costs and time, improved comfort, safety, and shelf life of the vehicles. Modern-day CAE tools are used to run several predictive analytics at the design level.

A significant percentage of the testing and validation can now be done using software simulations rather than resorting to physical tests with hardware, which are much more expensive. However, the analytics are only as good as the accuracy in the critical inputs being provided.

The job of the engineer using the CAE tools is to ensure that the critical inputs are accurate, and then make sense of the analytics to help their teams make decisions.

This short article provides an overview of the CAE Master's and its top 5 placements.

The CAE Engineer Master's Program at Skill-Lync

The reverse-engineered Master's program for CAE engineers at Skill-Lync consists of 6 modules (individual courses) overall.

  1. LS-Dyna for Structural Mechanics/FEA
  2. CrashWorthiness Analysis using HyperMesh and Radioss
  3. HyperMesh for FEA Plastic and Sheet Metal Applications
  4. Structural Meshing using ANSA
  5. Advanced Structural Analysis using ANSYS Workbench
  6. Automation Using TCL/TK For Hypermesh

Course-Wise Structure

1. LS-Dyna for Structural Mechanics/FEA

In this course, students will focus on preprocessing fundamentals. FEA basics and simulations, learnings on LS-Dyna, material modeling using LS-DYNA, best practices, and the concepts of crash and safety, and much more are covered in this module.

2. CrashWorthiness Analysis Using HyperMesh and Radioss

The CrashWorthiness Analysis using HyperMesh and Radioss module teaches students about frontal crash analysis, side-impact crash, rollover, and roof crash. These are the different simulations that mechanical engineers should know in depth if they are aiming to become CrashWorthiness engineers. Students also learn about the basics of HyperMesh and Radioss.

3. HyperMesh For FEA Plastic and Sheet Metal Applications

Course to support students in understanding the basics of finite element analysis (FEA), give a basic introduction to HyperMesh GUI, learn key geometric tools, etc.

4. Structural Meshing Using ANSA

Module to introduce the ANSA GUI and tools, learn about the concepts of manual mid-surfacing, Solid Meshing, connections, batch meshing/casting, morphing basics, etc.

5. Advanced Structural Analysis Using ANSYS Workbench

In this course, students also learn to use the industry-leading ANSYS Workbench used for multiple analysis and apply to different analytical techniques such as static structural analysis, transient structural analysis, and explicit dynamics analysis.

6. Automation Using TCL/TK For Hypermesh

A module to help students get hands-on experience with the TCL compiler, TCL commands, and learn how TCL can be used with HyperMesh. Furthermore, students also learn how to build GUIs with TK and much more.

Bonus: Learning Python

Additionally, we also suggest students take an individual course on Python for mechanical engineers. Whether you are learning ANSA or HyperMesh, knowing coding in Python becomes crucial. In simple terms, the course Python for mechanical engineers will ensure that you cover all bases for using the different tools involved in computer-aided engineering.

Success Stories

A detailed report about every project executed by these success stories is available on the Skill-Lync website here.

1. Sachin M - Mechanical Engineer | 2019 Undergrad | GPA - 7.17

Sachin Muralidharan took the CAE master's course at Skill-Lync as a fresher. He landed a job as a Vehicle Architect at the prestigious Ford Motor Company in the Automotive domain.

2. Vimal Raj - Mechanical Engineer | 2019 Undergrad | GPA - 7.6

Vimal is currently working as a Graduate Engineering Trainee at EASI - a company in automotive consulting similar to HCL and Satyam in IT.

3. Sankar Raj - Mechanical Engineer | 2019 Undergrad | GPA - 7.65

Sankar completed the CAE Master's program at Skill-Lync and ended up with a job as a CAE Aerospace Engineer at Axiscades.

4. Luv Kumar - Mechanical Engineer | 2019 Undergrad | GPA - 7.8

Luv Kumar completed Skill-Lync's CAE Master's and is now working as CAE engineer ar Satven.

5. Purojeet Patanayak - Mechanical Engineer | 2019 Undergrad | GPA - 7.8

Purojeet completed Skill-Lync's CAE Master's and is now working as CAE engineer ar Axiscades.

The Secrets Behind the Success Stories

A strong project portfolio increases the probability of getting jobs by ten times. But students only do one project at the undergraduate level in college, which lacks in terms of detailed analysis as well. Students can perform very well in an interview when they have multiple projects to talk about in-depth.

For every project in the CAE Master's Program, students do a detailed project analysis. These reports act as a live showcase of the skills of students. Recruiters can see these portfolios of projects executed by students and decide whether students are a good fit or not for the skillsets that their companies require.

For example, if a recruiter from Ford Motors is looking for particular profiles with a specific list of skills and knowledge of tools, then the project portfolios act as a valuable guide for filtering the right candidates. Furthermore, at Skill-Lync, students are also provided with multiple tool tests to simulate real world-interview questions.

The Impact of Project-Based Learning

Each module in the CAE Master's Course focuses on practical learning through projects. There are 3-4 projects involved in each course. Completing the CAE Master's can enable students to complete 15-20 projects and build tangible evidence of their knowledge and skills.

Overall, the five courses total to up to 800-1000 hours of effort in internalizing the knowledge and skillsets related to Computer-aided Engineering.

We hope that the article on CAE Masters and its top 5 Placements helped you with greater clarity on pursuing a career in CAE, one of the most attractive disciplines in core mechanical engineering.
